Against dragon legendaries. Have it hold a speed item and have the hidden ability that makes it transform on entry. Outspeed your opponent and use the dragons strongest dragon move against itself and kill it easy.

Can be asked for many many Pokemon. Gamefreak has always been demonstrably terrible at balance, especially with gimmick mon.
Every Pokemon fan ROM does a much better job.
They essentially over-estimated how powerful transform would be and decided that making HP unaffected by it while also giving Ditto and extremely low amount of it would offset this.

It didn't, it just made it useless. This is probably why they considered this guy as an evolution in gen 2 as a fix before scrapping it.

Imposter Choice Scarf Ditto lets you punish anyone who boosts too much with moves like Swords Dance or Dragon Dance.

Ditto copies stat boosts when it transforms, and then Scarf ensures you are faster, and you either scare what it copied away and damage something else, or get a KO or possible sweep from it.

Ditto is a terrible pokemon and is basically only good as a breeding tool. Sucks how the majority of gimmick pokemon are outclassed even by joke pokemon.

Ditto is an okay defensive tool, with a choice scarf it can force out or counter sweep if a pokemon tries to set up too much. Even without a choice scarf it can have great defensive utility many pokemon run moves that either aren't very effective against their own typing or are cockblocked by thier own ability.

Because it copied what it saw. If Machamp uses Bulk Up like 6 times it's going to copy that bulky Machamp.

Imposter Ditto only exists in gens with Team Preview, and mainly is only getting in as a revenge killer, no smart opponent will ever set themselves up to be reverse Ditto swept.
And against Stall Teams you are basically playing 5-6 if you brought Ditto.

It's still better than what it transformed into at the moment it transformed (barring HP stats), with any backup or changes after that as an external factor. The only times it would be genuinely a terrible Transform at that moment would be against something that only has status moves or if under Trick Room.

Ditto works decently against stall on principal of basically having infinite PP. The Scarf sucks but if you can bring Ditto into a Knock Off you're freed from it.

Imposter anti-stall, since most stall mons have a HP lower than Ditto's, it will copy and outstall the opponent if not the rest of their team. But you gotta play smart, tho.

Pre impostor? Just to find out the movesets of a cpu pokemon. Transform doesn't even have +priority , nevermind how it's straight up glitchy garbage in gen 1 (transform uses Ditto's shit attack/defense and special for dealing and receiving crits)

In PvE anything is viable, so why not?
In PvP Ditto has never been meta, but against unknowns can have real value as a move scout.

Imposter Ditto is the only way I found to survive online in SV. There would always be that one Pokemon I had no answer for but was also actually also weak to a faster version of itself.

Before Pokemon became competitive and focused on balance, it was a regular monster-capturing RPG. Many of the Pokemon filled various RPG monster tropes. Ditto was a doppelganger. Voltorb was a mimic. Stuff like that.
