Gemini's been annoying the shit out of me lately. Had a whole thing planned with this scrub 0th level female adventurer where I'd be a dirty old man wizard that sees his youth as a less dirty young man wizard in her and decides to help her, and despite 99.9% of the story thus far being me treating her well, every single time I say or do anything the words are hitting her like a physical blow and she keeps breaking down and crying

Don't want to outright change the story since "Old wizard hires you as a sex maid" is plenty of reason for her actions but it's getting tiring when she thinks everything is a trap with some ulterior motive when the entire time I've been entirely straightforward about everything. I have added a bit about how I've been honest to the author's note and that's softened her a little, it's likely the context of the previous gens muddying the waters so much and probably should've been something I nipped in the bud earlier but again, a bit of it makes perfect sense. After a few in-story days have passed? Could still hate me, think this is disgusting, but PROBABLY not think a bowl of soup is a trap

I haven't tried on recent models, on old models I tried making appropriate lorebooks for everything (Not as fun for me of course but if you want it to write you a mystery off the cuff it'll just be hallucinating up a storm) but it wasn't able to hold together. Current models with much larger context might be able to swing it but again, that's if you're wanting to make a mystery adventure for others to play and you're making all the pertinent details and hoping the AI will play along well enough. I had some fun with slopping for a time but the problem is as soon as the AI forgets what's going on or you start picking up on the obvious 'slop-isms' of it repeating the same shit at the end of each message it destroys the entire illusion.
Also no matter what you do the AI is fucking terrible at keeping track of characterization shit or meaningful plot details.

It's okay. A lot calmer than the previous Deepseek V3/R1 models which some may not like. Personally, my RPG-like scenarios benefit from it because it sticks better to the prompt.
I like to use reasoning because it helps keeping track of stats and conditions for some of my scenarios. However, purely on its default settings V3.1 has this big issue that it tries to keep its thinking process very short (it's one of the big highlight features they advertised on its release). This actually hurts the model's performance because it'll gloss over so many details that it starts getting shit wrong that it handles fine without thinking. A very embarrassing example was how V3.1-thinking on plain settings had a blind character routinely react to visual cues like it's some shitty model from mid-2024 while non-thinking mode V3.1 handled it like you'd expect.
On the flip side, V3.1 in thinking mode responds really well to prompts that direct the way it approaches its reasoning. The issue above is easily fixed by a simple prompt telling it to pay attention and spend more time thinking. The reason why I actually like the V3.1 is because it responds to reasoning-directing prompt so well that you can give it huge templates of things to consider while reasoning and it'll diligently work through that without adding any frills, which helps with some of the stuff I'm doing with it and makes it a good choice despite its issues.
I still don't use it too much because GLM4.5 is easier to run and performs pretty much just as well as a slightly boring hybrid reasoner.
