I genuinely can't see a remake working for a few reasons.

They will touch the ost. The OST is perfect and should NOT be touched.

The PS2 prerendered visuals are exceptionally well done in terms of art direction/cinematography. I can't see them pulling off how disturbing and eerie they are. The watchers scene with the queen beast is so fucking cool.

The only thing that needs touching up is the gameplay, that's it. The voice acting is also perfect.

I really love it. Probably should play it on emulator because on the PS3 it'll regularly hit like 15~20fps, it's really rough. But I think the tone of the game is wonderful, it leans more heavily into dark comedy but it's still very earnest, it's not embarrassed of itself. I like the gameplay quite a bit too, performance aside, some really fun boss fights, love the characters and the voice acting too. Unforgettable final boss.

First Drakengard game, yes. It's got some fantastic atmosphere and a story that gets fucking nutty at points, but it plays like a previous generation game, and not in a good way. Drakengard 2 is slightly better to play, but it's something Square-Enix died without Yoko Taro's involvement, and is completely non-canon, so skip if you want. I think they should move on from both Drakengard and Nier and make a new sequel to both settings already.
The more things they add to nier, the less charm Drakengard and it's setting has.
Now it's some perpetual multiverseal world tree time-loop. Do another time-skip, post Reincarnation. Thousands of years again. Return the mystery. Most of the fun stuff with these games is getting to look into all the backstory after you complete the main story and picking apart every little detail. I bought a used PS3 which I tested once and it worked, then when I went to use it for DOD3 I found out it was pretty fucked. Still managed to beat the game, it was the one game it served me well for., even if I almost gave up at the Five fight because it kept dying during it. Perhaps I try to fix it when I git gud at soldering.

More like their creations, since Drakengard was created by Shiba and Iwasaki and with Natori being the main writer. (Yoko Taro mostly worked in writing the optional party members and alternate endings).

Why does Square Enix always take their best creatives and punt them off into the salt mines?

DOD1 could use better gameplay, but zero changes outside of that.

And by better I don't mean flashier or faster, just combat with some real depth and challenge. This is the only change that could be made that would not be detrimental to the game as a whole. Altering the story, dialogue, music, even trying to remake the FMVs in modern style would ruin it. Making the combat fast and flashy and spastic would also ruin it.

No way in hell. DR1 is way too old and clunky for anyone to buy a port, or even a standard remaster.
