"Gameplay" is by very definition "progression". You do things inside the game. Either in an order strictly pre-determined by the game's designers, or with some variations those same designers have provided freedom. Even cookie clickers have progression because number goes up. "Gameplay without progression" is complete, clinical brain death. Zero neuron activity. In fact even there nature laughs at you as the decay that starts immediately is progression as well. No progression is true vacuum.
