They basically sold whatever IPs they had that still had some amount of monetary value to a new company that is fluffed as a joint venture of Tencent and Ubi to manage and develop them. Which is just a fancy way of saying they sold the IPs to Tencent but in a manner that makes it less apparent they no longer own anything of value.

No that is different since Tencent just has an investment in Fromsoft. This is the IPs being sold off to a 3rd party company entirely with the extent of Ubisoft's involvement being just their name on paper to help with the brand value retention. This is done so that when this studio puts out new games they can claim that it was partially made by Ubisoft and thus ride on whatever legacy from Ubisoft the IP has. Ubisoft will have no actual involvement with it however.
