One of the key draws of MMOs was interacting with other like-minded people online. Now most of that kind of interaction happens through Discord and other social media, with the rise of other, simpler party-style multiplayer games that require far less commitment eroding their foothold from the "playing games with others" angle.

i wanted to start LOTRO to see how it's doing nowadays but they've switched servers and all my chars are stuck on a closed server... they will enable character transfers "soon" (it's already been 20 days).
I was never been able to make any friends online anyways, now i'm playing on a self-hosted WoW WoTLK.
