I was referring to the many kino and soulful games of the 2000's that were made because the devs loved it. There is some sort of rift between old and new, not sure how to explain it maybe around ~2013 when new developers just lost their passion and do their jobs for a paycheck, many modern games dont have the sovl old ones used to have, even new releases of soulful franchises fail at that.

but then you think about the existentialism questions and what is even real in that context since those painted people and creatures were sure conscious

People say this a lot and opinions are divided about Act 3 some calling it dogshit others kino. I say thats the mark of actual good writing, if E33 was just about killing the Paintress and done so after that, it would never be as memorable and iconic as now. The 2 endings gave it infinite controversy and had great writing. It can be discussed for a long time because there is no clear definitive answer to it, every character is complex and well written, and the unique twist is what makes E33 stand out so hard. Upon replay you start to see all the funny little hints upcoming, like how you can see Verso when you enter the manor for the first time or the Young Boy nearly mentioning Renoir and Clea's names the first time you see it.
E33 genuinely mogs all FF released in the past 25 years.

The start is absolutely fantastic, later parts are ass but that's irrelevant since normalfags don't actually finish games so it'll win GOTY and be praised as the peak of vidya.

This game kept killing my 6750xt (making the entire computer suddenly power off). It is the only game that ever did this. No idea why that happened, but it sucks that I couldn't play it, the game was pretty fun from the ~5 hours I stuck out.

There is a fanbase, as evidenced by its plauercount on Steam. The problem is that this is their first game and they rushed the release, so the heavy reliance on Unreal Store stuff and the game being blatantly unfinished (Endless Tower) and fucked from a mechanical perspective (picto stack for first turn nuke) means there's not much to talk about except the story.

Unfortunately, the story was written by a rando from Reddit, and it shows. You got your Ned Stark moment straight out of AGOT with an Indian scammer instead of Robb Stark as a replacement, and you have an entire fantasy setting flushed out for character drama, which can only be as good as the writing and the performances based on that writing.

So, when the writing sucks enough to devolve into a bunch of half-assed addiction references - never mind the 3rd degree burns - you really are left with nothing but midwits hyping it up for nothing.

I enjoyed it, but it's literally just another JRPG in the long list of JRPGs I've already played, and there are definitely other ones I'd praise more highly than this. The game is simply touted by normalfags as the best thing since sliced bread because it has all the trappings of a JRPG but they replaced the more anime style with more real looking characters and visuals. I think this game served as a good litmus on outing people who claim to dislike the genre for anything more than superficial reasons.
