people made it through dark souls, which is FAR more obscure and while I know that 99% of the stuff they did was because of hardware limitations, I really miss the times where you need to search for stuff in these games. I think rse were the last ones in that regard. But only because you needed to find the submarine.

back in the day most kids didn't own a guide so word of mouth was the main way to learn about important gameplay mechanics such as the old man and the eastern coast of cinnabar island
