I’m 29 and not really a hardcore gamer but I’ve always used games as a way as a for of escape. Recently, I was playing Red Dead redemption 2 during my break with my steam deck and a coworker came up to me and said "video games, at that age? aren't you a bit too old for that?" Idk why but it made me feel like crap. now I catch myself hiding when I game around others.

You aren't entirely wrong, but also watching something is a lot lower energy than gaming.
And often less time-consuming.
Assuming (new game) has zero technical issues (which is rarely the case for big releases people would talk about), it'd still take at least a dozen hours to bingeplay through it. Likely more.
Whereas a new season of (random garbage) is anywhere from 4 hours (12x20 minutes) to 20 hours (24x50 minutes), but is strictly finite, you can always see the end, which makes it far more manageable for the mentally-drained workcattle of the U.S, China, and Japan.

I played switch at 36 when we have fuck all to do at work. When I got a switch 2 multiple nerdy women wanted to give it a try because one of them wanted one.
When I finish late and walk past QA you can see multiple people play a portable gaming system.
