What's your favorite Sonic game?

I dunno. All the 16 bit ones are really good. Mania, too. Advance and Advance 3 are also pretty solid.

My only strong opinions about Sonic are that you're insane if you choose not to play fan ports/fixes these days, the 2D games are way better, and a lot of the 3D games suffer more from control/progress gating/bad tutorials than design issues.

I played Chaotix a few months ago and I didn't think it was bad but it felt like a drag

It's a tie between Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic Mania. I just wish Sonic Mania had a better final boss because when I was 8 years old experiencing Doomsday Zone and Super Mecha Sonic that was the greatest kino ever that made my jaw drop to the floor.

I have a soft spot for it, so I get it. It's very much in the spirit of Sega's arcade games. Really looking forward to the PC version. The devs made really great remixes for the side content and the control overhaul makes the game way more fun.

The original Genesis/Mega Drive Sonic games will always hold a special place in my heart. Every Sonic game after that is soulless garbage (except for Mania).

I know this will out me as a zoomer, but I'm not going to pretend that my favorite Sonic games aren't the first ones I played. I recognize that the Genesis games and Mania are great, but they'll never scratch the same itch for me.

He went from only one stage done to all but the tutorial, Night Palace and the final boss done in the span of one year. He's also actually porting the game instead of making a new game with the old assets. Only changes are lighting some song remixes for the bonus levels to make them feel less samey, which is respectable.

Yeah, A.I.R. was made years back and requires a ROM because it's not running native code. I'm not entirely sure if I'd call it an emulator or a program using an emulator as the initial step for running software? It's really weird.

Point is, it's doing Genesis emulation and then all the other stuff (widescreen, mods) is being done natively by the program. It plays like if you were playing S3K on Blastem.

There's also a really good mod for CD (Restored) that autistically catalogued damn near every movement tech used in speed runs to make it feel more like the original game and restore input parity. Weird shit.

1 and 2 have no alternatives though, lmao. In 1's case I doubt many people care because it played a bit ass, but it's a bit of a shame for 2.
