I've been watching some streamers playing MGS3 and 4 for the first time and unironically women tend to have more soulful reaction to it than men, they happen to get emotionally invested and they cry at the end, while men more often ridicule the game for having "goofy", "unserious" or "weird" moments and too many tonal shifts between drama and comedy and they don't even get sad at the end. Ocelot is cocky and funny but sometimes behaves like a rookie who wants to impress an older cool guy, which is endearing, then at the end of the game he reveals he was trying to shoot you with blanks all this time which means he never wanted to hurt you in the first place, and the postcredit phone call reveals he was supposed to be on Snake's side the entire time, which means his cocky reckless behavior was, mosty, an act made up in order to deceive Russians. Which makes him very smart and good at his job for a 19 year old. And if you know every mgs game you know he was always the only one who stayed loyal to Big Boss and his character was responsible for most events in the series. Overall influential and cool character. He was the greatest spy in the world and had the potential to also be the greatest soldier, better than The Boss and BB imo, but he focused his autism on helping BB too much

The fist fight between Snake and Liquid Ocelot at the end of 4 was one of the most emotionally moving parts of the entire series. That and when Snake tries to comfort Otacon after EE dies in MGS2.

Series did well enough considering how goofy it is.

On a side note, there's such a small amount of actually "cool" animals. Imagine working on the Mother Base and you get assigned some retarded code name you can't even change, like Crouching Crab
