So the last few games that really grabbed me we ports of DS games
There's just something about that era. I'm not even particularly nostalgic for it. I had one but I'm more nostalgic for the gbc really. Anyone have any suggestions of DSs ports on steam? Or just great DS games you can emulate without it being a pain in the fucking ass because of all the system's gimmicks.

Etrian Odyssey has ports, but they're overpriced.
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 2 is a favorite of mine I think you should emulate.
Fossil Fighters is one that has a touch gimmick that works with mouse controls but I don't think I would like it if I didn't play it as a child
Get Mega Man Star Force DX and Star Force 3.
And if you can get a machine that can do touch good touch controls, Super Mecha Controll MG is a must play.

Rune Factory 4 is a 3DS port, but 3 is from the DS.

I really enjoy playing Wario Ware: Touched on my phone. The whole game is touch-screen-only minigames, so perfect for phone without controller.

I've been playing the original JP Ni No Kuni and it's been max comfy. the artwork and story is by studio ghibli and level 5 takes care of the rest. it feels like a DQ spin-off at times
there are touch screen drawings for the spells but they are never in real time so it's manageable to emulate. patching a rom is extremely easy nowadays it took seconds to set up

If you like JUMP and Smash Bros Jump Ultimate Stars has minimal touch usage (just tap the panel to switch characters or use assists).

I know the DS has a lot of RPGs. Are there any with interactive narratives?

This game is absolute soul visually and it doesn't use the touch controls at all so its easy to emulate. The only thing you'll need to do is show both screens during cutscenes since they use both screens.

seconded. the combat is pretty boring, as are most of the side quests, but it is still a great game
