For the record these game "you downloaded demo for" ALWAYS had a demo available and usually it is an old one.

For example, take CONSTANCE, they had demo since last October and you can download it now, but it is heavily outdated. So what happens is 2 things:

- either they will upload new one on/past Oct 13
- or they use NextFest as a advertising/PR tool to bring attention since their release is 22 oct

Looks nice but it reminds me of that other cheap clone with a similar premise that copied the monochrome sister games. Super Chillers was a pretty good demo, my review scoring system is based on how much I would be willing to pay for a video game and there's theoretically no upper limit on the score, though I suppose all my total cash assets combined would be a hard limit. In reality, I've never spent more than $80 for a video game so that's probably the top score.

The combat is definitely more polished than CrossCode, but I'm apprehensive about returning to puzzles and platforming, even though I've already beaten CrossCode. On one hand the current puzzles are insultingly simple, but they can easily throw more bullshit in the full game.

When the barkour demo started and a metallic dog approached me I thought I was in for a dog version of Terminator where evil robot dogs from the future try to genocide biological dogs. But it turned out the dog was just wearing a suit of armour and he was a good guy recruiting me for dog spy academy.

also I feel like dogs don't need to crouch to enter vents. they are already vent sized. this dog has a gun though that's pretty cool. but it only shoots rubber bullets. that is not cool.

Anyway, I wanted to get through the tutorial to see if the game's plot has something to do with cats. It has something to do with cats alright. You get dropped at a cat aficionado/scientist's castle to infiltrate. I actually like that I don't know what I'm going to find in there. Makes it exciting. Too many castles are just filled with zombies and I doubt that will be the case here.

I decided to pirate House of Necrosis and play it just to prove you wrong. I finished the game (the first part, I know there's the secret area) and yeah, I didn't have to learn anything to get this far. I just got lucky and cheesed the difficult encounters by throwing items or being generally overstuffed.
Even if the RNG in the game is generous, it doesn't excuse how this system is only designed to waste the player's time. Risk management that just boils down to "reroll/grind a little until you have a good loadout to minimize risk" is not a strategic gaming decision involving pull and push, nor it is a puzzle. It's just pure gambling. I know the resident evil inspiration is only visual, but in those games I could just go around knife only, limiting myself to one health, and still beat it with nothing else needed other than the occasional puzzle encounter. The winning condition in House Of Necrosis is not "I need to master those game mechanics and understand my opponents to succeed" but "I need to hoard the correct stuff and bring it as much as I can."

In this game, even if you know enemy patterns or try to be careful with your positioning, you are forced to take hits you would have avoided otherwise because you don't do enough damage. The solutions?
>get a melee weapon that hits more tiles in front of you to flank enemies (luck based)
>gather/hoard ammo to kill enemies before they get close (luck based)
>get equipment that increases your damage output (luck based)
>find and use items on them (luck based)
None of the creative thinking to solve a puzzle here. Shit like this is why RPG mechanics just suck for most action games. Where's the planning or skill involved here compared to a fighter or a turn-based tactical game? You don't have to think outside the box like what most good puzzle games expect of you either.

Good games can be beaten naked and get harder if you speedhack. Not the case for this slop

So far, the gameplay is still very easy because of your ability to stock/draw a card per turn and the story and characters are nothing special. This platformer's incredibly boring, it's not for people that play lots of 3D platformers, it's just a cuteformer where the reason you play it is because of the visuals, not the gameplay.
Kero 64, Big Catch, Rollin Rascal, and Demon Tides all offer a much better platformer gameplay design as some examples of upcoming 3D platformers.

Movement's incredibly basic and simple as the only thing you can do is: jump, wall climb, high jump, spam rolls and dives. No deeper moveset, no interesting physics interactions with the base movement.
It's also janky with how there's many platformer 101 things it doesn't get right like how you can just spam dive straight into a wall and vertically climb it and that's far better to do than just climb the wall normally. It's not a tech because the default wall climbing lasts so short there's barely any use for it so there's no reason not to be spamming dive into the wall 24/7
High jump is weird because it just locks your movement direction in place which feels stiff and unresponsive and ruins the point of using the high jump for more height, you can't even dive out of the high jump just to try and have a bit of fun.

The tongue doesn't have any interesting applications to the base moveset (neither does Kero 64 oddly), you just use it to grab bugs, flowers, and as a reskinned grapple hook, there's nothing interesting done with the MC being a frog.
The only interesting ideas it has are the swinging physics and the way the vines grow

My issue is not with the fact that enemies are attacking or defending themselves, but that the basic toolset of the player in House of Necrosis does not allow you to skillfully get rid of the enemies in most encounters without RNG being involved in the interaction. If you face a tough enemy, your options to succeed are not:

This is ultimately what I wanted to address. Because telling me "just step aside bro" was WRONG and thoughtless. The enemy in question is glued to you if you try to move, and will not do anything until you do something him to trigger his counter-attacks. Which means you are forced to tank hits, and your only options to negate that outcome rely on the hexes, serums, traps or your ammo(RNG).

Another way using the same Steam launcher is going to the library, to the "all games" section and sort by "last session", there it shows you the correct order of what you played and when, as long as you haven't uninstalled them from your library, which deletes the license from the launcher.

Less than 5 minutes generally, it doesn't take very long to get a feel for how the game is. Some of them I do play longer though. Usually I force myself to stop even if I happen to be enjoying it though. It's a waste to play the demo once it's become clear you want the full game.

Goblin Nest isn't very deep and the porn isn't amazing but it strangely scratches the number go up busywork itch. Probably best to ignore unless you have autism like me.

I can't do that, I'm very proud and if I don't usually see the demo end screen I feel frustrated. Only in exceptions where the asshole dev doesn't know where to stop and their "demo" almost covers 50% or 75% of the entire game, since there it extends up to 2 hours or more and it does take away time from me to try other demos
30 minutes seems like the sweet spot to me, less than that and you don't get a solid impression of the game, in some genres 5 minutes don't even cover the tutorial, more than that and it becomes unbearable.

Deep diving is the best method I've found. You only see each thumbnail once and you don't see repetitions on each pagination. It's difficult and time-consuming, but it takes the least amount of time. Finished playing it just now and the concept is interesting but the execution and writing are both bland. The idea is that it's a story-focused game where you pick a friend (or a stranger/streamer) to be the person who played the game before you and what you encounter in the story changes based on what they did. If that person was a dick to others, the people you meet will probably be prejudiced towards you. If they weren't a pointless altruist, you might find more supplies through the path they took. If they managed to convince a gang leader to loosen a lockdown on an area, you won't need to sneak around. Almost sounds interesting.

But the main plot of the game is the cliche where humanity is dying of a disease and there's only one medicine for it that's hard to get. All of your decisions will be about being a saint or a monster. The game is also extremely linear, or at least the demo was. I was just getting shoved along a path and making minor decisions after characters were done rambling at me. I can bet that the player before me didn't really convince the gang leader so much as they were just shoved into that plot line the same way I was just forced into doing a heist to steal medicine

The most damning thing is that the game looks like it has less reactivity than any other story-focused game because of its gimmick. It HAS to be because it has to be in a constant state of equilibrium for the next player and the next and the next. The player before me convinced the gang leader to rescind the lockdown, so I didn't have to sneak through. But because the lockdown was gone the characters I met were cocky and wanted to steal from him so we did a heist. And because we did that heist, the gang leaders going to do another lockdown. And it's going to loop like that forever. Doing either of those are not actual choices we made, might I remind you. It is actually insane that the developers think this is an acceptable game story.

Well, that was awful. Refunded it. The gameplay is just "find the item and backtrack back and forth across the level a dozen times" per chapter and then they add monsters you have to run away from to make it more tedious. I really wish it was just a point-and-click adventure.
