Asked a few days back but can anyone recommend a controller that works natively with an Xbox Series system I can use as a replacement for the actual Xbox controller that doesn't require a dongle to allow its usage on the thing? The only things I found when searching were the Scuf controllers and the GameSir G7 SE. I'd prefer wireless if possible, and I don't want a 1:1 Xbox controller design because it already feels the smallest out of the big three.

I wanted to get a Cyclone 2 for this but apparently it needs a dongle to do this at all and those are at somewhat of a risk of either an account ban or just being disabled by Microsoft so I don't want to bother if that happens.

The only downside of the controller is the horrendously awful d-pad, otherwise I despise using any other Dualshock controller, they are truly terrible compared to it. DS4 is okay but DS, DS2, and DS3 may as well be thrown out the window.

dualsense and ds4 use the same parts as far as i can tell. the sticks drift at the same frequency, the buttons can stick if you button bash too much and the triggers are still using god awful quality springs which wear unevenly. and good luck trying to open it up to clean it or repair it. ds4 was hard enough to repair. if you accidentally disconnect the trigger spring mechanism in a ds4 you'll be spending hours getting it back to normal.

Very nice d-pad. I like it especially because there's no mushy-ness to it. it's just press and click almost like a mechanical button. if I had a gripe about it it's the noise levels because it's a loud d-pad, but all the series x buttons are loud. do any of them beat the standard stuff at things like build quality, better-feeling buttons/sticks or ergonomics?

in my experience, the xbox elite is the best for points 2 and 3.
if there's anything that can at least match it and not cost 150 bucks+ it would be ideal

I don't get why no one made a symmetrical controller with the Xbox d-pad.
Anonymous No.722912125 [Report]
I would like to build my own controller.
I realized that no controller actually accomodates my hands, I have to assume some unnatural hand position that becomes very tiring after some while.

Is there a controller that provides the hand position flexibility of VR-style single hand controllers/joycons while still being one piece? Like, having some kind of hinge mechanism in the center, or some controller that lets me adjust the handle size so I can e.g. increase the handle-button distance?

They typically offer any selection of the following, typically most of them:
>TMR or Hall-Effect sticks depending on the age of the controller.
>Back buttons, typically two, sometimes four.
>Either the ability to turn on turbo or have each button able to turbo.
>The ability to macro button inputs.
>The ability to swap d-pad/stick/button positions.
>Sometimes the ability to change the d-pad between a disc or a standard one.
>The ability to change the buttons out for Nintendo/Playstation/Xbox layouts.
>Compatibility with DirectInput, Xinput, and Bluetooth allowing you to typically switch modes with some button combo or held button.
>The ability to wake up a Switch 1.
>Gyro.
They're also usually $30-$60 vs. the official $70-$100 nowadays and work natively in most cases. You're essentially getting the "Elite/Pro" controller features at a lower price. Many of them also work on the Switch 1, not sure about the Switch 2, so they're nearly always a cheaper alternative to a Pro controller.
>do any of them beat the standard stuff at things like build quality
Depends on how much you spend. The lower end $25~ controllers like the Nova Lite are super light and cheap feeling but they feel sturdy if that makes any sense. The higher end $50+ controllers like the Cyclone 2 all feel like official ones. If you go to the lower end $15~ range like the Anbernic RGP01 or Power A controllers you find in western big box stores they feel unbelievably light, stiff, and cheap and tend to come with caveats.
>better-feeling buttons/sticks
They virtually always have better sticks by virtue of being TMR/HE sticks which none of the official expensive controllers are.
>or ergonomics?
Many of them outright copy the SNES, Wii Classic Controller, Wii U Pro Controller, or modern Xbox controller ergonomics, sometimes just slightly bigger. The Nova Lite feels like a Chinese take on the DualSense for example. Generally the back buttons make these things feel terrible to hold though.

Got these for Gamecube emulation

>sticks
They're hall effect, the springs are extremely aggressive to the point I have to set a small deadzone, since flicking them in one direction can cause them to snap back so hard it registers an input. They are nice and accurate though, they have a true octagonal gate with high max values, I believe this is because they are meant to be used with original hardware
>buttons
Everything is microswitches, which is nice for the D Pad but kind of weird for the face buttons. I usually play with headphones though so I don't even hear the clicking anyway
>D Pad
Very accurate and benefits from microswitches, I played a bit of Street Fighter 6 and command inputs came out like butter
>triggers
They can be set to be analog or digital, I usually just keep them at digital even though it's not the most accurate experience. They are shaped like normal triggers and not like the OG gamecube pad
>ergonomics
They feel just like OEM except a bit bigger and heavier, I quite like it. The build quality is very nice, they feel less flimsy than OEM
>price
Got them on Aliexpress for $30 on sale, pretty happy with the value. Only the orange one comes with an adapter to use with original hardware, they both include a USB dongle but personally I'm happy to just use Bluetooth

they're literally bigger. that doesn't make sense. the 360 had a giant battery pack sticking out the back. the successors aren't anywhere near as bulky. the triggers on modern xbox controllers far surpass what the 360 had too. and the dpads. the 360 controller was amazing for the time and was 1000000x better than the dualshock 3 even with its meme sixaxis tech but every xbox controller ever since has improved on it massively.

for me it's actually the xbox one controller because it was wider than the 360 and even the series x which came after it. it made you clench a bit less. and the triggers were wider and had a better finger mould than the series x controller for whatever reason. so it was just peak comfy. if the xbox one controller was 10/10 the series x controller is like 9.9/10 but also has a better dpad and bumpers so it's better in some ways, just ever so slightly less comfortable.

i used to alternate between a one s and a series x controller earlier this gen because i'd always have one on the charging dock while i used the other so i had enough time to compare the two pretty much every day for 4 years.

They are not, I literally just measured my wireless 360 one to my Series one. The 360 one is ever so slightly bigger. It also has significantly larger grips which made holding onto it way more comfortable than the Xbone and Series controllers.
>the 360 had a giant battery pack sticking out the back
Not the wired versions.
>the successors aren't anywhere near as bulky
That is literally why they are worse. The bulk made it feel better to hold and grip.
>the triggers on modern xbox controllers far surpass what the 360 had too
Sure, I won't deny that, but the bumpers feel far worse despite being bigger than the 360 ones.
>every xbox controller ever since has improved on it massively.
Hell no. It's more cramped, the Guide button being recessed is objectively terrible because it has so much travel to even get it to register which makes actually opening the guide menu and taking screenshots on an Xbone specifically horrendous, the ABXY buttons aren't as raised which makes pushing them feel worse and it feels like it has more travel than on the 360, the sticks are smaller and so much worse to use over time than the nice bowl the 360 had even when the bumps wore off, and ergonomically it feels worse because the grips are less chunky. The burger and menu buttons are better than start and back though, I will not deny that.

>>722914943
>The new series controller is great to use
I completely disagree. It's an absolute downgrade to how the 360 controller felt to use outside of the RT/LT and d-pad and I hate using it for long segments. It's my least favorite of the three systems' controllers.

Xbox apparently requires a hefty markup for certified controllers to be used wirelessly, so they don't completely eclipse the Series controller's value. Xbox certified controllers with wireless below $100 can only use the wireless on other platforms, they're still wired only with the console.

Swapable battery is waste of space, that could be used for other features, and material, as it needs more plastic and metal components. And those metal components can easily corrode overtime if you forget a used battery there

For the Xbox controller you need AA batteries around, if you get rechargeable ones you need an additional device to charge them. The 8BitDo battery looks like something that requires a specific charger as well if you want to load it outside of the device itself. I'd understand the bitching about sealed batteries that cannot be replaced at all but that doesn't seem to be your case.

Also, parallel chaining batteries is really an addiction of mine, I don't do it just with controllers, I do with everything.

My headset have three batteries. My street BT earphones have two batteries. My Joypad have 3 batteries. The only limitation to how many you can shove, is physical space. And if the capacitors can charge that many power without overheating, but that really ain't a problem when you're dealing with small stuff. But if you're doing experiences with things above 10k mAh, then you should think of ways to cool the capacitors too

>>722922295

without opening mspaint and showing you, a lot of FPS games actually use the "velocity" of your thumbstick movement rather than the thumbstick values directly to reduce this latency.
Valorant on console does this apparently, so if you are 0.5 left on the thumbstick and suddenly move right, you immediately start turning right rather than waiting for the 0.0 inflection point to begin turning right
