Roguelikes
Has the term "Roguelike" completely lost its meaning? Everything is roguelike now, its has turned into marketing word that has no relevancy anymore, same shit as MMO back in the day.

the actual term has been "traditional roguelike" for years now. rougelike and roguelite are used interchangeably for indie games with permadeath and/or gambling to maximize dopamine

the actual term is still "roguelike", it was stolen for clout, to make low effort indie garbage more appealing by associating it with games that had actual thoughtful design and only appear minimalist on the surface due to the lack of graphics

instead, the new games should take on a new term that more accurately reflects this

Man I wish devs (not just indies) would come up with more original stuff. I can't count how many Metroidvanias and Soulslikes I've been avoiding in the last years.

Yes.
Most normies in general are suffering some kind of categorization break-down. Actual brain damage that prevents them from putting things in their correct groups.

This is easiest to see with the term "RogueLITE" as it used to be an insult thrown at shitheads (here and elsewhere) who were using roguelike incorrectly. The end result is now we have two terms being used incorrectly instead of just one.

> Twin Stick Top Down Shooter, in real time
Normies: "That's a roguelike"

> It's a fucking card game
Normies: "Roguelite"

> Walking simulator and visual novel
... I can't keep giving examples, it hurts too fucking much.
