Probably another decade or so. AI can generate assets but the problem is implementation. Like right now, any AI troon could totally generate everything they need to make a DOOM wad, levels included, but you'd kill yourself the instant you had to figure out SLADE and Doom Builder to actually piece it all together.

Your lack of follow-through is what kept you from becoming an artist to begin with, and it'll be a while until AI can address that as well.

It's a cultural phenomenon that needs to be studied.
My idea is that these people think "useless developers", the guys that make these threads, are responsible for games being bade, woke, tranny and all that. Similar to how all artists, the people that create art, are supposed to be woke and therefore all current art is bad.
But if we replace all these humans actually creating things with a soulless machine, then all art and games automatically become based and trad. For some reason.
When in reality, AI slop allows big companies to push out more slop on a daily basis. But it also allows small-scale projects to be made on a cheaper budget, with less manpower required. And these will still be the same people that already make the game currently available.

A decade or a few, maybe never. Neural networks are very good at producing slop that looks "good enough" if you don't put it under enough scrutiny, but that doesn't cut it for the programming part, because you can't just wing it there. Bad visuals can be still looked at, bad code either runs slow, is difficult to maintain or doesn't compile at all. There is no failure state comparable to not building in visual arts. AI would need to remember exponentially more context than it already does to maintain codebases bigger than 5 files, understanding them to a degree that allows it to do bugfixing, optimization and integration. These are big, complex, actively evolving mechanisms, and Gemini couldn't even beat a Pokemon game with insane amounts of handholding and rigging.

You should watch an actual video explaining how generating images works, it basically takes a "randomly" created image of pure noise and starts de-noising it over many iterations until you get something that resembles the user's prompt, based on the images it was trained on.
A child can look at other humans and abstract it down to a stick figure, but any image generating model that was only trained on photos of real humans is incapable of doing something as simple as that. Same is true for stylizing real world things, abstracting them, emphazising features, creating methods of shadings, patterns, and effects that are impossible in reality. If it's not in the dataset, it cannot be reproduced.
We don't even know how the human brain actually works and haven't made any progress in that field in decades, it is complete foolishness to think that running some model on a GPU worth a couple hundreds or at best thousand dollars resembles anything or is equivalent to what happens in the brain.

A lot of the issue they have is in terms of monetization which so many of the top companies are trying to figure out how in the world to monetize what they have, but anything they do figure out will only work until they get AI far enough (Which seems like only a few years left at this point) at which point that system collapses as a whole. Subscriptions are a minor way to do it but they have no other real way of getting money and anything that is generated is either copyrighted or can't really be used for anything.

A big thing I think that's going to bite them in the ass is that once this progresses to the point of AI generation being so good it replaces humans at basic tasks with 100% accuracy instead of the hallucinations they have now their entire monetization aspect disappears because of the ramifications of it. They will have created something that makes an unbelievably huge amount of jobs redundant which will lead to so many people being unable to buy their goods or unable to buy the goods of companies utilizing their products.

So many people will have no way of earning money that a discussion about UBI will have to be made fairly quickly for a majority of sectors just so that money can actually flow with only certain jobs being able to make more than what UBI gives. The only people with any real jobs will be the people upkeeping AI, people who do artistic things, and physical labor jobs that don't have something that AI can reasonably overtake yet. Once it gets to the point where AGI takes over it's even more over because the only money they will gain is basically money cycled from a UBI that has to exist at that point for anything in society to function anymore.

That transitional period which we'll probably see in the next decade is going to be such a bad one because so many "Make work" jobs are likely going to be made just to not address the reality.

Farming as a whole is very likely going to be fully automated with no need for an actual farmer at some point in the near future just because they already are automating a lot of the things even now. Just go listen to how current farmers do things, they literally have tractors and harvesters go by GPS and satellite imagery in patterns to harvest crops. You basically just need automated trucks and a slightly more sophisticated sorting system that can manually remove certain things and there you go.
Vibe coding even being a thing should clue you in how that is just steps away from making coders far more redundant as the AI will eventually have access to the whole source code to review.

You don't need an accountant because it can do it without flaws just by the numbers you input and it can cross-reference things to immediately audit you at every point.
