I honestly really like these designs and style, but admit the reasons and intention behind it irk me the wrong way. As another anon said in a thread, the focus on how to avoid or remove something rather than what could be interesting to provide is restraining themselves for no reason. One creates, the other limits or removes parts of itself to reach a similar, but blander conclusion.
Imagine you have a character with the power to swap genders. Designer A reached this with the idea of "a character that fucks with people by having a second persona to disguise themselves as", while Designer B did it because "I want a trans character in the game". Assuming both do a good job at respecting gender views, A will definetly make a better character because their mindset is on how this concept can create situations that could be interesting to the player (changes moveset midfight, fucks with the story, etc), while B will be too worried about showing stuff that will not be relevant to the game itself. And you could totally do what B wants with A's ideas for the game.
A dev can be as skilled as they can be, but it's the push behind the idea that will eventually stirr up the game to being better or worse.

Imo AI will suffer like CGI VFX where corpos will go for lower cost, resulting in the "generic, mid AI" that already infest the internet, while smaller groups with skill and professionals will learn to use AI in a decent manner to get better results. Sadly I doubt nepotism will ever go away and we'll still see people bullshitting their way up.
It does seem like we've reached a point where bland or trendy shit doesn't work as much as they want.
