voiced Anki vocab frequency deck with new words embedded in sentences and one main grammar guide (+ others if some point in the one you use isn't clear enough) is all I needed. Although for new learners, I wish there was an anki deck based on children school years instead of N levels or frequency. Learning words from the most basic and concrete to the more advanced and abstract is a way better way of doing things/not confusing yourself

Grammar is a challenging topic to teach. You can very easily get it wrong. Most natives couldn't explain the grammar of their own language at all. The more accurate you are the more stiff it becomes and the less it appeals to beginners.

Thats unfortunately true when it comes to texbooks and shit.
But nowadays we have native Japs who know English helping out on youtube.
Still, a few cure dolly vids are pretty much a requirement for a new learner, like the first 20 or so are pretty much essential.
This is especially true if you only know English and not any other languages since ESLs already know differences between their native language and English so they are used to different ways that languages work.

Also if you like loli anything you need a VPN (free ones are fine too) set to Japan for it to show on DLsite. Lots of stuff has been getting hidden recently (even some JK) for overseas because of all the credit card bullshit.

Wouldn't be actually, RVC is very efficient and can convert minutes of voice in a few seconds even on midrange hardware.
You just need to find someone autistic enough to go through every video and separate the audio tracks, isolate the vocals then convert them and put it all back together. Or figure out a way to automate it.

No. You have to repeatedly reinforce what you've "learned" or you will forget it. Hence tools like anki. You are not done after 3 weeks, you are only getting started. Let's see if you still remember it in 6 weeks. Then 12 weeks. Then 24. Etc.

Just learning what they look like isn't enough, you have to learn all their meanings and readings in different words too. And then you have to realize that you're not even fully looking at the whole kanji sometimes and you're confusing shit like ้ and ๅฏ and ๆฆ because you're retarded and you have to learn them again.

Not really, that's for vocabulary study and reading, the important thing is to know what you're looking at and how to look it up, like seeing a new word in English you don't know the meaning or pronunciation of, it's stuff you pick up as you go along
>And then you have to realize that you're not even fully looking at the whole kanji sometimes and you're confusing shit like ้ and ๅฏ and ๆฆ because you're retarded and you have to learn them again.
Not a problem if you follow one of the existing regiments since they're structured in a way that takes you from the simplest radicals to the multi-kanji characters like that, all of which build on top of each other, there's no way you'd ever confuse them if you learn them that way, since it'd be like confusing sunflower and cauliflower because they share a common part that also exists independently

anki works but it shouldn't be the only thing you're doing. anki is for helping your ability to recognize words immediately when you see them, not about learning grammar or even the usage and nuances of a word. it's easily useful for a lot of words and their associated kanji because a lot of words don't convey complicated concepts and so you just need to remember one thing associated with a particular kanji/pronunciation/meaning.
at some point you stop using anki because you shouldn't need it anymore, but when you're starting out it's immensely helpful in just getting past the "I have to look everything up" phase.

Cure Dolly was indeed inspired by Jay Rubin, but this wasn't something she hid. Of course a schizo retard like you acts like being inspired is malicious.
https://learnjapaneseonline.info/2016/11/05/unlocking-japanese-a-breakthrough-in-how-we-learn-the-language/
> Cure Tadashiku: The model wasnโt entirely your doing, was it?
> Cure Dolly: No. I owe a huge debt to Dr. Jay Rubin whose work introduced me to some key concepts on which this book is built. What we have done is to take the implications of what he taught and expand them much further. Rubin-sensei showed how every Japanese sentence has a grammatical subject, whether you can see it or not, how the wa particle never marks the grammatical subject (even when it might appear to), and how the invisible subject works.
The above was prior to her video series. For her video series, we can see the transcripts from the Github an Anon posted:
https://kellenok.github.io/cure-script/34-understand-any-sentence.html#_34-understand-any-sentence
> Jay Rubin-ๅ
็, for whom I have great respect,
She gives him the title sensei since Rubin's book taught her when she was a Japanese learner.
Anyway, you can not like Cure Dolly, but like the YouTube teacher always emphasized, grammar guides are just a tool to understand Japanese. The goal of comprehending Japanese matters the most, so people should use the tools that measurably work the best for them to achieve that goal.
In my opinion, Cure Dolly videos are an excellent resource. She uses creates a conceptualization of the language (inspired by Jay Rubin), rather than making people study individual grammar points that treat Japanese like a Western language. Although the poor audio quality does weaken her teachings, all videos are subtitled. Additionally, the transcripts, like from the Github, above help. The transcripts even point out useful comment section posts Cure Dolly made.

I never understood most of the wa/ga shit. I still don't know exactly what the fuck a grammatical topic and a comment are to this day since they clash with the concepts of subject (someone who/something that is/does/etc.) and predicate (what is said about the former) for me.
and as for the particle shit, you just take a look at a few templates and you're done. no need to look beyond "ใฏ for contrast," "ใฏ for I'll do X, you'll do Y, etc.; or in your case, X, in his case, Y, etc.", "XใซใฏYใใใ," "ใ for look, X is happening!", "ใ for relative clauses," "ใ for I am the one who will be doing X," and others.

I'm taking the N1 again this year. Took it last year too and got 52% when playing games was all I did for studying. It's actually one of the better ways if you ask me because a lot of N1 grammar is just surviving archaic grammar and games with fantasy/medieval settings use it a ton. But I got some books and shit this year that I'm almost done with.

Very likely dead. One of the main reason people think she's alive (outside of mistaking her identity) is because her final video announcing her break was posted on May 15th, 2021. People mistake this as her death date. There's evidence of her activity after this date. However, that date was for when she got sick and paused making videos. She passed away in September 2021, which is stated in the final video's updated description. There isn't evidence of any of her activity after this date.

Anki is fake memory. At the very most, its use is to plant in your mind brief, false memories that aren't meant to be permanent.
Only reading, listening, and experiencing will embed those memories permanently within you. Don't be fooled. Don't fall for the ็ๅฟๆ่จ. Trust that you will remember things. Don't let fear, uncertainty, and doubt be the reason you card things.

When I was learning English through pure immersion (no anki/grammar/anything just a VN/anime/movie and a dictionary) it would take me like 50+ encounters for some words before I could finally memorize them.
When starting Japanese, I thought that Anki is supposed to help with this problem so I decided to focus on it. But yeah, after doing Anki for 2+ years I have a lot of words which I added at the very beginning and still can't memorize to this day. I guess if you have shit memory, like myself, then nothing will help you so you have to admit it to yourself, grit the teeth and just grind it.

In terms of word count vs. actual story content, VNs are like the least efficient medium of all time. By the same measure, manga is incredibly efficient. I recommend manga for beginners who don't want to end up bored to death.
>immersion learning
so you just pick something up that you have no clue what it says, look up what it says, and then continue with the next sentence/speech bubble/piece of dialog?
>>722974508
I think vns are the most efficient for these reasons.
1. They are voiced (usually). Closing your eyes and listening allows you to practice listening
2. They have subtitles. Reading practice.
3. Your comprehension speed is the pace. If you were to watch anime or any live action stuff, you have to keep up with it, and if youre unable it is discouraging to keep rewinding.
4. Some of them have gameplay to keep you interested.
5. Often have sex in them, also keeping you interested in them.
For these reasons i think vns are the most generally useful medium. If you wanted to solely practice listening, or reading, obviously youd have to swap mediums, but vns will give you all of the above.

Just read easy LNs aimed at younger readers. Won't necessarily mean you won't run into hard vocab/grammar since the expectation is that native speakers are the ones reading them, but at the very least the subject matter and storytelling structure will usually be easy enough to follow. Some even have reasonably well-produced audiobooks to go along with them.

All of this is irrelevant if you're not a diehard VN autist. If you are, more power to you, but most people are going to be bored to death. I say this as someone who has read plenty of VNs in english but as of now I think I've tried at least 5 VNs for japanese practice but I couldn't stick with any of them, the pace is just too goddamn slow compared to my reading speed. On the other hand I've managed to get through 30 or so manga in Japanese. Something no one talks about with manga is that reading these in English is fucking garbage because of the bad localization and the fact that there is no voice acting to make up for that. VNs on the other hand, are not bad to read in English because of that voice acting giving you a decent sense of the characters' personalities even if the translation is shit. So learning Japanese feels like it unlocked a new medium of entertainment that I previously thought was pretty mediocre.

Thatโs because manga has no narration, while VNs are filled with it.
If you want VNs with little narration, then try Axanael or Rance 03.

Doesn't help that "narrative voice" (whatever you want to call it) uses almost completely different vocabulary from normal spoken Japanese. The lack of overlap between the two is seriously insane, it's like two parallel languages.

that can be true. I guess you can always just make a save, skip the sex scene because they usually arent too important, and come back later and read it when you want to jerk off.

LNs are my next favorite for sure. they tend to give a much higher amount of narration, and the sentences usually become more complex.

Pretty much. the beginning is hell, but once you get past the cliff its smooth sailing. Life is so good now.

I work at a Japanese elementary school, I wonder if I can nab a Kokugo book or lesson plan or something and document grade school kanji/vocab/grammar
Actually, it might be easier to just order a teacher's edition textbook and look through that

wrong, a child has parents and teachers that speak to, model, influence, and correct the child's speech. The reason adults can go live in a foreign country for 10 years and not learn a single thing is because they don't have a parent or a teacher to guide them through the process. Children aren't fucking magic, you still have to teach them shit like proper grammar and syntax. Children spout copied sounds, words, and phrases 24/7 but if you're an adult then you tell them "that's not how you use that word, that's now you say that phrase, here's how you pronounce that, here's what you say when you want something like this" etc. etc. but adults are either too shy to speak a foreign language nonstop like a child and thus don't get corrected by natives, or the natives are too shy to correct another adults shitty attempts at language.

just learn a few dozen radicals and then you can pretty much reconstruct any kanji on sight with correct stroke order just by recognizing the radicals

Adults who live in foreign countries sometimes don't learn the language because they literally don't want to. A lot of immigrants will isolate themselves in communities with other people from their cultures and just refuse to assimilate or learn the local culture. If you don't want to learn a language, you won't learn it. Hence why there are ESLs who learn fluent English by playing vidya in their countries, but also Mexicans who live in the USA for decades without learning a single word of English. Language acquisition is something we able to do naturally, yes, but it does take a lot of effort and time.
Also if you dropped a child in a foreign country in a year or two they'll probably be dead or get trafficked.

Everything I learned and became good at was self-taught, outside of school.
Ironic, I know, but school is good for teaching discipline and memorizing things so that you can function in society and solve problems yourself, itโs not very effective for real learning.
