The first case is going to be largely the same with minor oddities and things to make the player question things. Imposter is still going to be the first victim and teruteru is still going to be the first culprit (though the trial is going to try and steer the players away from thinking that since imposter dies diffrently. They try to fake us out by making us check under the table but he's not there, we find him in the toilet instead so peko's stomache never happens in this version). The second case is where major changes happen. The victim of the second case is someone from the first game that none of the DR2 cast recognizes. This is due to izuru's memories from hope's peak being jumbled up in the simulation because his body is being messed with in person by someone on the outside. You’re kind of missing the whole point of the game, if everyone starts butting heads and fighting all the time it just plays into the killing game. They have to get along even when its difficult, and if Makoto wasn’t as altruistic as he was it wouldve been much different.
Mondo died like a retard, Byakuya had to get over his narcissism and Kyoko developed a lot as well. Makoto was just ahead of the curve and they respected him a lot near the end because of that.

That doesn't make Makoto any less of a bitch though. In fact, you're admiting it yourself that they only got out because Makoto was a bitch. And, honestly, I don't agree with that premise. They could have easily gotten out with far less deaths if Makoto wasn't a passive bitch. There's so many ocasions things only got as bad as they did because Makoto was a retard (Sayaka) or way too passive (Chapter 2 motivations and Sakura's situation). Its not just Makoto, obviously. Makoto wasn't the only one being too passive, but as the Main character, it's the most obvious. Makoto being the way he was was actually a detriment in my opinion. It worked for a very specific scenario, but that scenario was far from the best that could have been achieved.

The message is fine, even if way too hamfisted to the point of feeling silly. But that's not what I'm diacussing. Makoto could have easily still been all about hope and stuff, without being a bitch. He could easily have been more assertive. Because, even If your ideals are good, people won't follow you if they don't respect you as a person. And Makoto, forget about being respected, both Kirigiri and Togami used him as their grunt. He doesn't feel like the leader guiding everyone together. He feels more like everyone's mascot.

Being active doesn't mean being a retard. Attacking Monokuma was never going to solve anything. Now, what he could have done was see through Sayaka's obvious bullshit when she asked to switch rooms, pressure everyone alongside Taka to show what they got from Monokuma in Chapter 2, and show the videos they got in Chapter 1 (this would bring up the possibility of someone figuring out that maybe the outside world was fucked and money was worthless, meaning Celeste is less inclined to kill), and try to do something to patch Sakura's situation (instead of doing nothing and hoping for the best).
But that's not my main issue. What I dislike about Makoto isn't him being passive, but him being a bitch. Acting like a dog to Togami all game, being fucked Over by Kirigiri twice (only surviving due to plot armor) and not even rebuking her at all is what leaves a bad tastes
