But damn! $59.99 is way too much for a re-release that changed random dialog from the original Japanese to be more respectful of women for no reason and didn't even strive for the best graphics possible. Oblivion Remastered was arguably worse regarding censorship, but it's cheaper for a lot more game, and the actual roleplaying is stronger. The Deluxe edition is just useless and might make you mad since the models in the viewer app are uncensored, but you can just pirate both.

You definitely gotta pace yourself. Playing all four games in a row would be really rough. Pic related is my playtimes to beat each game, they only get longer.
I think the way the games themselves are paced helps somewhat though; between cutscenes and down-time in towns/school or dungeons, it doesn't really feel like you're just repetitively doing the same shit for all that time. And if you don't care about doing completionist/side shit, you can cut down the time to beat a fair bit.

The second game is like the first one but bigger in scope, the third game takes a different approach. I've seen some people call 3rd skippable or a side game, but seeing as how it's my favorite in the series, I obviously disagree. The first 2 games are basically a single story broken up in two parts because the story is really long.
The third game switches protagonist to focus on a character introduced on the second game, and is an exploration of that character's psyche and persona, as well as his past.
This is set up as a dungeon crawler taking place in a place I won't spoil, but suffice it to say as you progress through the story you have more and more characters joining you.
They also decided that since this was a different format from a typical JRPG where you follow story beats as you progress through the world, that they'd include snippets and little episodes of other characters, playable, non playable and even just things and events, in things called Doors. Some Doors feature minigames. The doors basically serve to expand the stories of characters that didn't get much screen time, or to further cement things that happened in the past. Some doors focus on events a decade or older. Some take place months prior to the main story of the event happening.

What's everyone's playtime on this remake? I'm about to hit 80 hours and I'm still only halfway throught the last chapter, not sure if that's normal or if I spent way too much time talking to every NPC.
