You only get one chance to make a first impression, better to delay a game and polish it than release it in a bad state. Yacht Club Games is one of the most successful modern indie developers, they made a good call again here.

That's a bit of a shame but not a huge deal since I already had 4 games to look forward to this month. Now I have 3. Will still be a busy month for me.

Shovel Knight is how old now? Why is it taking them literal decades to make a fucking NES game

I still haven't beaten Silksong and I haven't even bought Hades 2 yet so I'm fine with the delay, I've got too much other shit to play

The final shovel knight DLC didn't come out until 2019, and it was in December so it was basically 2020.

I like the look of the game but the characters are gay. I would have preferred it had they made a normal human or elf hero instead.

Someone post it.

Pipistrello absolutely mogs the fuck out this one, saying as someone that was excited until playing Mina's demo. Visual weren't impressive at the start, but I grew found of them. I thought it was one more copy of Zelda, but it isn't.
Yacht devs KNOW they have fucked up.

They have made one game that only got popular because nintendo did the heavy lifting and featured them heavily on their nintendo directs. There is no difference between shovel knight and the 1000s of platformers on steam right now.

The game looks pretty nice desu but I never played Shovel Knight. I know its an unrelated game but I am just wondering if I should get into Shovel Knight and then this game. Is this an indie dev I should be supporting or not?

Top down games requires at least triple the amount of animation a 2D sidescroller does.

From the bloomberg article:
>Mina the Hollower has a complicated open world with areas that are linked together through roads, bridges and secret passages, ramping up the complexity
>“The level designs took longer than we thought" Velasco said, "Putting it together is what took so long.”
>Entire game is playable
>external playtesters have been doing “100%” playthroughs
>It was mostly small details/Final polish
>A secret passageway between two of the game’s areas needed more of what Velasco called “considered gameplay” — in short, it wasn’t a pleasant experience to walk through.
>Another area contained an exit that players kept missing, so they added a little log tunnel to make it clearer.
>In another location, they added an icon to make it clearer that the player could interact with a character hidden in a test tube who might otherwise be easy to miss.

QRD: It's mostly small visual/interactive details. Few months to apply the final polish. The long dev time ~3 years came from connecting the world together.
Fuck you OP for bringing me this news and not linking the article

Yes but when you advertise and push it for a halloween release date only to cancel at the last hour with no word on when its coming beyond “it’ll be out when its out” is gonna kill interest since there’s nothing to look towards. At the very least with the former people know it exists, but most people are gonna forget about it until it gets stealth dropped who knows how much later. Can guarantee you’ll have a tom of people going “wait, that came out?”
>>722951986
>it’s all just small details/polish
>it took so long because of the game being massive
Game’s almost guaranteed to be a bloated mess, and if its worth delaying over minute shit then it’s definitely someone’s “masterpiece” which is never a good sign

bro they are NES sprites with like 4 frames of animation
you could bang that shit out in a couple days

/v/ is uppity about this game because it doesn't have a normal dodge roll and the demo kicked their asses
good to hear they're sticking to their concept and not pandering to fromshits
gonna be absolute kino and vee will keep crying about it forever

That's literally every indie dev though. Make one game and hope marketing works in your favor. Even then Shovel Knight isn't as popular compared to other platformers like Celeste. I'm sure they wanted to make another game/IP, but thanks to their kickstarter goals they had to do this >>722948459, which was a free update for most. At that point fans and devs got sick of shovel knight.

It won't hold a candle to Prodigal in terms of scale and content, and Colorgrave has done nothing but release bangers in the meantime.
