They need to go back to being adventure games with few checkpoints and no fast travel. DS3 completely ruined the tension of going through a new area by having bonfires everywhere and being overly linear

Every Dark Souls suffers from crunch and being fundamentally incomplete.
I know FromSoft doesn't enjoy revisiting previous work, but ideally I'd like to see a feature-complete DS1 and DS2 as it was fully intended.

This is the probably the simplest and most important change that every post-DS1 game needs. Get rid of fast travel until you’re halfway through the game. It improves everything automatically. People hype up DS1’s intricate world design but in reality half the reason they enjoy it so much is because there was no fast travel and you had to traverse it on foot.

1. Add animation cancelling
2. Add more melee combos so its not just an R1 spam fest
3. Remove Boss runbacks. Period. Every boss should have a bonfire right infront of their room.
4. Put more effort into the story. Stop this vague, half-assed nonsense. I'm not saying you have to fill the game with cutscenes like a movie game, but the plot should at least be coherent. Everyone who played the game shouldn't walk away with a different grasp on the lore and the story because all you've left were breadcrumbs impossible to craft into a linear story. Sekiro had the right idea, imo, which is coincidentally why its the only one that's getting an anime adaptation

The actual non meme answer is to nerf rolling and make other defensive options viable. Instead of spamming the same defensive moves you balance them so that blocking or rolling or dashing have their strenghts and weaknesses and you have to consider which option to use based on context. This is what monster hunter and most fighting games do, so I don't understand why it's so difficult for fromsoft to actually figure out how to balance a game.

They're damned if they do and damned if they don't.
They've been in an arms race with the playbase since Artorias.
Once everyone solved the 'strafe behind them' bosses of early games, they had to make faster and more intricate bosses. Now you need more tries to learn them by design. So the bonfires have to move closer to the gate so you can get in those 20 tries. Eventually culminating with Shadow of the Erdtree where some players are taking 200 tries at Promised Consort even with the respawn just outside of the gate.

If you scale it back and lean into the adventure, people are going to complain about bosses being too easy.
If you have your cake and eat it too, people wont be willing to run past 15 dangerous mobs for a shot at a tough as nails boss.

FromSoft created a mess by trying to out-autism their players. Thinking they could actually win.

Put the two summoning signs for Consort Radahn inside the arena, like they did with Bayle and Messmer.
The fight would be manageable even for noobs if you could summon Ansbach and Thiollier inside the arena for help. Instead of doing it with them outside the arena and the doubling the boss's health only to die early.
Fits with them making the DLC very character driven. As opposed to how it is, where they fumbled that aspect at the 1 yard line.

They toned down on the light show, but yeah, he's definitely the hardest boss in the game for most builds.
If you don't do the tank build everyone looked up when they got walled by him, he's still as brutal as ever.

I'm all for the DLC having its own progression but you should be able to access it way earlier too.
Lock the final dungeon behind beating Radahn and Mohg, but everything leading up to it should be accessible way before the end game.
Maybe after Leyndell? Beat Morgott, get access to the DLC realm?
Or maybe after getting the first half of the Haligtree medallion?
