How old is elden ring now? I remember people talking about how it was canceled and never gonna release and every time I see it I'm kind of surprised that a lot of people have played it already. I feel like it was just a couple days ago when people were making fun of it for having that weird nufantasy author co-writing it, or whatever, saying he was making it impossible for it to release.

It was inevitable. Some companies were already kneeling a few years into the Switch's lifespan. Even now they're slowly cracking one-by-one, albeit some are just phoning in shitty late ports (Atlus) but it's getting a little better. It's not even a Nintendo only thing; it would be supremely fucking stupid for any gaming company nowadays to not do a multiplatform approach for all their games. Bloated development costs and marketing budgets means that every game will need more and more profit margins to maintain the status quo, which means raising the price, adding DLC, or porting it everywhere to get the maximum amount of audience you can get. Not to mention every game that is and will be released has to compete with games that are already released and/or F2P games like gacha and Roblox/Fortnite. The saddest part is that some companies (Vanillaware and Aquaplus) still do not want to do day 1 Switch/PC ports despite all this or they go full retard with shit that nobody wants, like Sega with their upcoming JSR and Crazy Taxi GAAS garbage.

Elden Ring did run at 30fps when it originally released, the Switch 2 is basically a PS4. Sadly the game doesn't have DLSS or FG.

with a much bigger allocated RAM (9GB versus 5GB)
the tech in general is also more recent which supports features not present on PS4

Switch 1 also had a bunch of ports that were better optimized compared on PS4, while you're using the game example from a dev studio not exactly known to be good at optimizing regardless of the platform. Although it's clear From Soft is going the extra mile to fix things on Switch 2.
