>Speaking to PC Gamer magazine, Gaider describes the development environment on Baldur's Gate 2
>"The whole romance thing was just an experiment, like James had no idea that anybody would even like this," Gaider recalls. "We were writing these long stories, and they were cool, but romance? It was like, 'People don't come here to romance, they come here to fight shit and battle dragons!'"
>Gaider himself said he was "not a romantic guy" and sought to avoid handling companion romance stories himself
Would the RPG genre be in a better place if David Gader's take on romances won at Bioware?

Yes. The insane levels of faggotry and feminist narrative drives should of been curb stomped in their earliest manifestations too. But here we are.

No, it was fine for BG2. The problem was the copy cats. Now it's literally everywhere and fantasy is just romance trash like novels.

100%.
I don't even blame women; this shit was entirely spearheaded, popularized and demanded by lonely virgins.

I am a lonely virgin and have no interest in vidya romance. Just give me appropriate cheesecake and I'm satisfied.

Truth. Nerds don't care about that. Romance is innately a normalfaggot thing, hence so much of it in anime and games since normals invaded.

Even the oldest pulpiest fantasy adventure stories had some barebones romance with skimpy buxom women in them. It isn't a complete adventure story without a good girl to woo.

Romance is as common as Fighting in adventures. Even in older WRPG games there were characters you could romance. I do not get why this is a wild concept.

I dunno if it's really the romance. More like "companion oriented" stories. The companions overtake the actual adventure and it becomes more like a social sims. I really think it was mostly a cross pollination from JRPGs that WRPGs adopted.
