I want to like this game but the main gameplay loop is so bad. You just go from planet to planet, land, walk 300 meters, use the beacon, rinse and repeat.

Unless you enjoy base building this game is still a hollow shell of nothingness.

it scratches an itch for me and has excellent spaceship flying. combat could be better but i'd play a combat sim for that

I can't think of a game with worse ship flying than NMS

I get that, I've played 800+ hours of terraria and countless hours of Minecraft... but this feels like there's just no gameplay at all? Like last time I tried to get into it, I probably played about ten hours or so, and didn't find anything to do other than shoot rocks/plants and click on generic outposts/ruins. I encountered two enemies the whole time, and every planet i visited was pretty much identical other than color pallete. Another anon mentioned base building, but there's just a few walls and floors and very little to put inside.
What to people actually spend their time doing in this game?

nope that's it

goals:
>click big rock to click smaller rocks so you can go to next big rock to click more small rocks, eventually you get to the center of all the rocks and go into the rock that's so massive even light cannot escape to get teleported to another rockverse filled with more rocks to click on

i really wish i wasn't exaggerating, that is indeed the whole ass game

I thought it was too basic like a mobile game too but then I started unlocking freighters and I was like damn this game is actually a bit complex

It's really fun. I haven't found the flaw I'm looking for yet.

lmao
no retard the game is shallow and boring and there is nothing to do except look at stuff.
irl space exploration has a scientific, factfinding exploratory edge to it. nms presents what it gives you as "exploration" but none of your exploration actually MEANS anything

like in elite dangerous at least you are a human mapping out the milky way galaxy for human civilization. even if every dusty rock you visit is functionally the same thing, there is a wonder and specialness to visiting planets with wild orbits around exotic stars or that are off in the undeveloped boonies or outside the galactic plane. in nms not only are there no orbits or wacky neutron stars but there isn't even a civilization. the entire game effectively takes place in a dream. nothing you do matters or has a point. it is without a doubt the most disappointing space game ever created and a complete waste of time -- unless you play in creative and just use it as an infinite procgen walking sim in which case it is actually decent. but as a space sim or survival crafter it's incredibly dull.

Freighters aren't complex. They're literally just bases in space which coincidentally makes planetside bases useless because they fulfill all the functions planetside bases do with the added benefit that you can just have them warp to you whenever you want.

The game is just complete garbage. It's as simple as that. The core gameplay is absolute shit. You go to a planet, mine and scan some shit, then go to another planet, and mine and scan some more shit. On top of that, exploration is a joke. Space is completely devoid of anything so you've got no reason to thoroughly explore each solar system. Every space station is the same. Every planet has the same points of interests. Every point of interest boils down to the same 1-2 room building with nothing meaningful in them or the same crash site recycled endlessly. Fuck, they couldn't even be bothered to make it so there's points of interests unique to specific biomes (even Starbound did that, and that game was a total shitshow). The exploration is only made more even more boring by just how baby proofed the game is. Every hazard has a big red exclamation mark over it when you look at it through your scanner. Just about every hazard boils down to a minor nuisance. The very few hazards that pose even the slightest hint of a threat require you to go out of your way to engage them. There's never really any sense of impending danger when you're exploring which just makes the game even more boring.

Is it true that the world in this game itsnl going to be the same as the size of our planet? That means that travel distance from point A to point B takes the same time as if I was walking from my house to McDonalds relatively?

It's a cozy farming sim basically. But you're refining ores and cooking alien meals. Your spaceship doesn't even explode into smithereens when you crash into space stations.

As someone who also wants to like the game but can't, I'd say there's 2 systems that are fleshed out enough to consider fucking around with at least once before you drop the game - base building and corvette building. Everything else, including exploration, is a proof of concept rather than an actual activity

Honestly I think the biggest problem with exploration in the game is that it just feels too safe, like the devs are modified by the idea of putting the player in any sort of meaningful danger. An example of a space game that does exploration right is Underspace. The real bulk of your cash in that game comes from exploration, going off the beaten trail far from the space stations to search for anomalies, wrecks, and mysteries signals to scan. While some may be harmless, some are deadly, as in if you're not careful around them they'll kill you instantly deadly like the perpetually warping wreck. Others serve as the start of sidequests. Others still might turn out to be boss fights that reward you with powerful equipment if you kill them. It's not always readily apparent if they're harmless or not. Some might look ominous and threatening but turn out to be benign. Others still might seem inconspicuous until you get close or hang around them too long. Either way, it makes searching systems for anomalies exciting because you just don't know what you're getting into when you find one and start approaching it.

>base building
Honestly, I feel like base building highlights how poorly planned out and designed the game is. There's basically no incentive to ever revisit a planet and to top it off, the game gives you a free freighter very early on that fulfills all the functions of a planetside base with the added benefit of not being confined to one location. If freighters were more of a late game/end game thing, base building could work but that's just not the case.

Yeah but underspace is a game, not a pseudo mmo grift
