I incidentally played two other games by the same dev, but never Yrtery of the Droods itself. Moment of Silence and Overclocked.

From what I remember they were both more competent games, but also kinda depressing. In their last game (Overclocked) you can look at a poster of their company and their protag kinda bitterly remarks that he has never heard of them. I swear that game had CGI cutscenes where some had clearly high quality models while some used the in game models for some reason.

It's not desensitization it's just maturity. Mediocre things are properly rated as mediocre because there's enough experience present to make that distinction.
