Group enemies together prebattle with minor illusion. Drop HoH to slow, damage and blind them. The shooting gallery is now set. Thrower begins tossing Nyrulna and proccing tons of reverberation and thunder damage. Lock Blasts 4 enemies back into the cloud each turn. Monk knocks back anyone who makes it through or downs them prone. Barb infuses party with 1d8 bonuses, rerolls, casts laughter/hold/command/confusion to enemies who teleport to safety.
It's pretty satisfying to see all the pieces work together. That said, the game is way too easy to require any metagaming or minmaxing. Just pick and use whatever looks cool to you.

What are some "fun" builds where your character has a lot of utility? I'm in my first playthrough on Act 3 as a 10 Swords Bard / 2 Hexblade build, and while it shits out damage with a lot of durability, it's really just using booming blade / melee attack repeatedly. At the same time, martial companions like Karlach / Laziel also just feel like 90% of their gameplay is just using regular melee/throw attack. To me it seems like the only classes that advance beyond that are things like Sorc/Wizard or other hard casters, but then it feels like you need to long rest much more frequently, since they feel like shit when you've just got cantrips.

Openhand monk with Durge origin has good options to play around with and isn't very complicated. More complicated play comes usually from item synergies with class features.
Also play on Honor mode, or at least custom option the single save mode. You'll use your tools a lot more because you can't save them for a harder battle in the future, as this might be the battle where your party dies and the run ends.

Tried to do Lae'zel origin and it didn't really work out very well. I had already completed the game as Tav, so I knew a lot about Frog.
Playing as her felt like Lae'zel was totally absent, ironically. You'd never hear her directly respond to anything, and even some lines that were voiced when she's a companion weren't voice when playing party face.

Slopflight is just slog after slog. I just got into the goblin forest area, found that the town was being besieged by some lu-bu dynasty warriors number of goblins, which should send half of the fucking faerun into high alert but somehow don't. After clearing the forest and saving the soldiers, I clear the south of the forest and save more soldiers, then I clear the north of the forest and save more soldiers, then I clear the east of the fores and save more soldiers, then I see one (ONE) aranea, so the story maybe is adv-no, I just kill it then save more soldiers and clear the east. then I enter some caves and clear it. then I need to sleep but get ambushed by 9 goblins, 5 hobgoblins and 15 bugbears, 3 of which are level 17 goblin archwizards. no matter, after watching those faggots chain crit me I rest again, reflecting on the fact that I just killed their entire platoon.

Honestly that early game curve is *brutal*. I played paladin once and will never do it again. Hitting divine smite especially on crit feels so fucking good (dat sound effect) but oathbreaking feels wack and it's entirely up to larian to decide if something isn't in line with your order's tenets. it's usually clear enough but sometimes you have to squint and tilt your head to understand just why killing a clearly evil adversarial npc was a bad thing to do.
