An annual collaboration project where /v/ sings about video games for a full month, from September 15 through October 15. The final week is here and we're closing it out strong, get your last minute work ready!

You can time lyrics to help out now! There's no dedicated sheet slot yet, but you can put them near the end of the Finished tab like pic related

Options:
1. MusicBee
2. LRC generator online

Both have their pros and cons. I'll explain very briefly how to use an LRC generator online. The one I used was https://www.lrcgenerator.com/
For this particular one, you paste the lyrics into the text area then click 'Synchronize to music'.

You will be taken to a new page, in here you can load your audio track using the Audio button, and start the playback with the START button.

In order to mark which line is being sang, you need to click on the 'Next Line' button as the line starts being sung (click upon hearing something, not in anticipation for consistency with others), the lyric in the text area will be highlighted white letting you know the line was tagged.

You do this for the entire song then you wait it to end. I don't know if it was a bug that specifically happened for me or not, but the only way I could tell the song ended was because the timer on the now pause button stopped counting up.

From here, you should have reached the end of the lyrics you posted. You need to click 'Next Line' one more time and the button should now be replaced with a 'Get File' button which will download the .lrc file to your PC.

Now, I just extract the content by opening the .lrc file with a text editor (I use VSCode) and take only the timed lyric lines alongside timestamps and paste them into a new .txt

(TLDR you put the song audio file and lyric text into the lrcgenerator.com website, it plays the song and you click once as each line begins, then you put the timed lyrics text it give you into a .txt file and that can be uploaded for the thread and sheet)

I use https://www.lrcgenerator.com/ because it's literally just listening to the song and clicking once per line unless you wanna get fancier with my tips below.
If anyone else wants to do it, look at pic rel/the rentry uploads for an example of how the text should look when copy-pasted from the site . My tips from last year:

1. Add an extra [00:00.00] timing to the start of the text, it makes the start of the song clean. Like pic rel.
2. Delete the website's advertising bit at the end, it breaks nothing to do so.
3. Personally I click as soon as I hear the line start to be sung. Like, I click as a reaction to the first syllable, ideally before the singer even gets to the 2nd one. There's wiggle room there because god knows nobody is expecting perfection, but if everyone does it this way it's simpler and the albums will be consistent.
4. As you're sitting there listening and clicking anyway, read the lyrics. If the singer changed something, it's helpful to fix that after you're done timing just by corrected it to what they actually said. For example using the Grips of an Angel song, 1 singer changed the lyrics on a couple lines and the other added a skit, so they can't share the same lyric text and they should be adjusted accordingly even if they're timed the same.
5. If you screw up the timing on a line and don't want to redo the whole song, just focus and do the rest right, then you can manually adjust the timing of that line in the text after. Musicbee lets you do this within the program while listening and you can instantly see how the new timing looks.


If you want to help out on timing lyrics and need more info just reply to me and let me know, there's no stupid questions with it. I can check your work if you want as well, I would just need the lyrics link and the original song file and both should be on the sheet by time you've got something.

We are going to need more people mixing songs so we can work through all the submitted vocals in time for the deadline, so I've prepared a resource of torrents for plugins you can use to help you get started with mixing your vocals and stuff later on, I pulled all of them from RuTracker: https://files.catbox.moe/7lhn47.zip
It includes a mixing template for REAPER and a short guide for some of the plugins, and a short guide on how to use some features of REAPER.
Use Qbittorrent to get the torrents to download. Torrents are basically download links, so just having the "torrent file" won't give you the plugins.

For audio software, I recommend REAPER. It's not as easy as Audacity, but once you learn it you'll be able to do whatever you need: https://www.reaper.fm/download.php
Recommend looking up some guides for getting started with mixing, but worst case you can ask in the thread.

No, but if we're being honest it's rare for songs to get a 2nd chance, when it's the same singers year after year a lot of the time the 1st time they see it is when they decide if they want to sing it or not. there's already a hazbin song on the sheet that was written last year and I don't think I've seen anyone mention it a single time this year outside of mentioning it exists when you were writing yours.

Yeah, the easiest way to just kill any interest in making new art is if the poll with 6-7 winners started with like 80 options because obviously a lot of people would take their losing art and just run it back. It's one thing for writefags because there's no limit to winners, but art has a strict limit on how many we can use.

Gotta make new art. As far as I'm considered a WIP was never made to begin with so if someone makes a finished version of their own old WIP that's fine. If something was never submitted into the drive I guess it depends on if the art ended up used for anything, if someone posted it in the thread in 2018 and since then it ended up used for memes or for someone's youtube or something, at that point it's not "/v/tm" anymore and shouldn't be considered even if it was never in the art folder. But that's just a hypothetical anyway, nobody is trying to do something like that.

You're right. I didn't talk about it explicitly in earlier threads (I asked about Marin's name and I asked a few other related questions about editing and stuff the past few weeks without saying what I was working on) because of the drama around Diversity last year. I'd actually talked about vocaloid in the threads last year and was working on something, but canned it because of the outrage and people lumping vocaloid in with AI. (I didn't dramapost about it. Anon and I hatched this idea a few years ago in IRC but were just waiting for the right song and idea to come along before doing anything with it. We never wanted to say, "I want to use Vocaloid, so let's come up with a song to justify it," but instead, "I think that Vocaloid could work well for a song from the perspective of an NPC or a waifu where the whole premise hinges on the singer not being a real person, so that's an idea in our back pocket IF the right idea comes up." We've posted about the concept in previous years, again, just didn't do anything with it.

We removed every single original line from the lyrics, including all the bird jokes, and added new ones. I picked this song because of the bridge where the singer yells SAY YOU LIKE WHAT I'VE GOT INSIDE because I had a vivid flash of being able to tie together
the "not a real girl because I'm a seagull" and the "not a real girl because I'm a fictional video game character" parts. The fact that the original song uses bird motifs was an added bonus for people familiar with that song, kind of like how other parodies I've written or sung usually reference the original song in its concept in some way. But if you compare the lyrics, they were changed almost entirely.

The original song is uses Vocaloid-style software too. I admit that my tuning is not as good as the original professor songwriter's, but I tried to make the tuning as close to the original as possible. IF another idea ever comes up, I'll try to pick a slower song for sure.

Platforms/Industry is basically set I think, between the 2 they're gonna share 1 album together again most likely. At least 3 great ones out of these can easily fit there.

Vidya is gonna get 3 or maybe even 4 albums, but it does already have 6ish options and most of them are quite good. Would not hurt to add more but I think it's inevitable other people will if you won't.

Board Culture probably could use more the most. We'll likely have 3 Board Culture albums or at least 2 and a hybrid album that contains some BC, but it's possible we have 4, who knows. Only a couple of the arts fit BC and imo there's only 1 BC option I would give a vote to currently.

We already have a good DLC art in the other folder and we only need 1. Could always make another one for DLC if you feel like it but there's rarely competition there.

I'll Break The Oath has a pretty sick story, it's Peter Molyneux as a demon and all the bubbles are references to insane lies and stories he spun to tell games. He's one of the most unironically chaotic evil people in the game dev space so an album depicting him as a devil is amazing synergy potential, AND he's not run into the ground like many other characters that go on albums.

Exactly, Fable is the bubble on the bottom right because he did love telling tall tales about it. If you look into the shit he's said that's not even close to the worst sadly. thanks! original is two japanese femanons trading lines while singing fast and high so it was really tough to enunciate and not lose my breath. had a blast singing it but def the toughest i've done in a while.

just finished cutting it before posting so the mix is still kinda basic. if you want you could try to arrange the other audio on top of the rough mix, then drop a mix with samples and speech added in the sheet along with a clean track of just those parts and no music. then i'll mix all that into the final rendition.

Love this year so far, the issues have been only minor and we've got a great mix of people around this year. Let's finish strong!!!!

Sometimes I wonder if people can even tell when different songs I sing are still just me, or if my voice is bland enough that it doesn't get positive or negative attention or stay in memory to be recognized. Guess it's a sign I can't be that terrible at least

I got lucky again, I had to change some lines for the sake of flow but they mean the same thing more or less
(changed the first "the star's ally" to "protagonist's ally", disappeared from the script became "completely from script"), I also changed the wording on the roost one for the same reason.

Glad to hear you had fun! You can certainly mix it better than me! So I'll do that. I'll put the sound effects where I want them in a timeline and export it so everything is timed decently. We only have two takes for the speech so I'll also put those in the sheet, and only one in the mix. The idea is to do half one anon, half the other, and the final part both in unison. And of course, you're more than welcome to join in!
I'm working right now so I'll be a bit, but you can expect the sfx track and speech takes in the sheet in at most 5 hours.
