I'm gonna be honest, this shit was the worst. Completely devastates any semblance of difficulty for the rest of the game, even when I was playing as a retarded 7 year old. Pokemon doesn't work when it's nonlinear because the leveling system is always 100% linear. Only way around this is self-imposed challenges and at that point you're making your own game.

I'm starting to believe a theory I read that new megas look like shit because they have to mostly be made of the original model, because it's less effort. Which is why they're just the original mons with shit tacked on or minor edits. Like Chandelure is just Chandelure with more candles, Feraligatr gets a toilet seat stuck to his head, Starmie had the vertexes dragged a bit, Dragonite has wings taped on, Delphox gets some floating sticks, and so on. Whereas many of the Gen 6 megas look like actual evolutions, like a new and stronger Pokemon based on the original with some sort of theme.

I can kinda understand why some people would claim that Gen IV was the peak - it was the generation where we could finally trade and battle online, and while some designs were really shitty (Magmortar, Rhyperior), they finally turned some pokémon actually viable by giving them evolutions - and some of them looked really good, like Weavile. You can encounter it in the cave next to the city with the fighting gym and it makes that gym a total joke, nothing can hit it. It falls eventually but with its middle evo tier stats it can hang for a bit.
Spiritomb is... a Pokémon you probably won't get the chance to use. Guide tier method for it to appear that requires a friend and/or 2 systems. It does shine a bit more but again, a lot of effort for a tank with 2 or 3 good matchups throughout the game (Fighting Gym & Psychic E4).
Neither are ingame all stars but Sableye is more likely to find its time in the sun. Spiritomb is this weird false deity that well past its generation still was treated semi uniquely, as a single encounter or needing unconventional methods to get it.
It really needs something because each Gen makes Spiritomb look more like a joke and the memories of Wondertomb keep drifting away as the years go by.

Hazards for example are all dogshit in single player because the AI rarely switches.

HG/SS even has a "end player run" pokémon: a Lapras holding a quick claw that knows sheer cold. If you run gets too high, the game will throw that Lapras at you. It will always go first because of the quick claw, and sheer cold will always hit.
