So yeah, are the sequels the same deal? People keep saying 2 is even more “anime.” I’m fine with that, I just want the writing to step up. Do 2/3 actually get better, or is it the same Saturday-morning stuff?

2 is even more predictable. Everything interesting happened in torna and the whole game is "this le bad and sad thing happened......back in le torna......" and it makes it fucking impossible to get invested in anything. Unironically the power of friendship saves the day

they're all villain of the week shonen anime. copers will say they're homages but that doesnt change what they are at their core.

Xenoblade's entire schtick is that it's a more shonen Xenogears, and Xenogears was already shonen as fuck.

The writing does get more complex in Xenoblade 2 and 3, since Xenoblade wasn't intended to be a Xeno game until later into development while Xenoblade 2 and 3 are written moreso as Xeno games from the beginning, but they're still shonen as fuck if that's what you're asking.

Blade 2 and 3 are more characterdriven, like Gears and Saga are, than Blade 1 is.

yes but there are certain degrees, XB2 at the end ironically was less "villain of the week" and more "dumbass failure" mixed with Villain of the week.

Xeno 1 feels more infatuating because at the beginning pretended to be something else until Shulk went full Kodomo (yes Kodomo not even shounen) and dropped al pretense, 2 always was what it pretended to be and 3 is 1 to a lesser degree with a FAR more shittier last arc.

I'm currently playing Future redeemed to manage to make sense to whatever the fuck happened at the end of 3 but so far nothing makes sense.

I totally knew I would end up on earth after killing my dad and fighting my evil god scientist clone from another universe and saved by a supercomputer and destroy this world to become a god and create a new one! Game sucks, too predictable and cliché, 0/10.

It’s not the worldbuilding, it’s not the plot. I actually liked those a lot. My gripe was with the fucking dialogues. They felt pointless, shallow, way too predictable. I don’t even know how to explain it. The setting, the landscapes, the whole world design are top tier, no doubt. But the dialogues? Man, they sounded like they were written for 10-year-olds with the attention span of a goldfish. Too short, too naive, too linear, boring as fuck. No second layer, no depth, just flat.
