There's no real "spellcasting" in this universe. There's magical objects, but no "turn flesh to pudding" type spells. Invincible lacks the powerhouses and versatility you would see in other comic universes. There is no Dr. Strange equivalent, no Iron Man or Reed Richards, theres no Hulk or actual Superman and Batman. Is that in the comic? I read it years ago but I don't recall anything like that, or they would have used it in the many instances they had to deal with Viltrumites. There's very few specific weaknesses and they go over all of them in the series, magic isn't really mentioned.

They were at the very beginning, because they were very clearly analogous to Nazi stormtroopers with the whole "ubermench" ideal. Then as the comic got long in the tooth we started entering the SJW era, so the writers felt they needed to include more skin tones and we got a based black one. Now since we're in the Netflix era where they just straight up replaced Mark's first gf with a random black woman that's absolutely nothing like the one he had in the comics, I assume they're making Viltrumites every color of the rainbow. I'm surprised we haven't gotten a trans one yet.

Also correct me if I'm wrong, but I think being a half breed gives Mark an edge because he gets a boost to his strength when he's near danger, just like Gohan in the early arcs of DBZ before he got benched forever, but that adrenaline rush may just be the author sticking to convention and having the hero cinch a win at the last moment to keep the fights compelling.
