Because quake isn't deep enough and no one has expanded on it since then, tf2 is an attempt to do that but it's casual and sucks compared to CS. In a world where daikatana didn't suck ass and Romero actually applied himself maybe Quake would still be alive, but there would be more to it than collecting power ups

The map design alone is leagues superior to Quake. While some CS maps are far better than others, they have some of the most beautiful and genius geometry I've ever seen overall that gives many maps a very distinctive and iconic flavor, which synergizes well with the more tactical gameplay. A lot of both games is just forcing your target into a fight while youre in a better position, and obviously having well designed maps greatly improves that, and I would argue the increased movement speed and one man Swiss army knife design to enable individual heroics of Quake actually undermines what's possible through map design, which ironically makes things like clutching in CS A LOT more exciting because it really feels like you pulled some galaxy brained anime protagonist shit when win a 1v4. Additionally, mechanically CS is obviously just deeper and more tactical, between utilities, teamwork, objectives, etc, and there's a hard cap to how interesting you can make a game that's just clicking on the other guy, you need more if you want people to stick around.

It's a decently big game and old, everyone already bought it. It plays kind of spooky how I play it and not cheap maybe that's why. It's all over the place and the opponents as well makes for good fightan. To play on a team you need to know each other good minded because you move around quick I imagine, I just played single player so far.

Because they suffer from the same problem fightans have where there is a huge insurmountable barrier that a player needs to overcome before they can have fun playing the game. You are allowed to suck at CS. Even if you are the worst most dogshit player who moves while shooting, can't aim and plays music while gaming is still technically in the game playing. Because there are so many people playing the game regularly, players like that can still find games and have fun. Since it's a team game, you can also have plausible deniability, so it's never your fault that you lost. What old games like Quake fail to realize is that the first thing you need for your game to not be dead is give casuals a way to have fun. Quake doesn't. So nobody plays it. So it's dead. Majority of players play games for fun and they won't grind movement or aim just to play a game with 200 other people all over the world.

Quake maps are fucking amazing though. Positioning is just as important in Quake and the level design and way the game works adds plenty of complexity just in different fashion. You're not tracking the items but also predicting your opponents pathing and inventory which you can deduct from the time he's missing and path he might have taken. Not to mention trying to manipulate spawns as well as the advanved movement options the game offers.
Quake has plenty of depth it's just different because Quake's strength is 1v1 duels while Cs is best for team modes.

But this is huge in CS, it's pretty much the biggest skill you can have in the game because how much of it hinges on repositioning and hitting from different angles. This is why there's so much emphasis on things like sound, where you even have to control your walk speed so the enemy can't hear your footsteps. And near the end of the round things get dicey because now there's likely an AWP on the floor somewhere, so things can get really damn tricky. There's a lot more to think about than just throwing a rocket down a hallway.

It's completely different in Quake and CS though. You don't know what the enemy team is buying. In an Quake duel you consider your enemies pathing and likely spawn and deduce which weapons he has vs which weapons you have which affects your pathing, the position you wanna take in a fight, how agressive you can be and so on. And while Cs has more weapons the weapons in Quake have way more depth to them and due to the longer ttk and amount of weapons you carry, equipping the right one at the right time is crutial.
And you do realize sound is a thing in Quake too right? You can slow walk to hide your footsteps. Equipping the rail emits a sound that gives away your position.

they only nerfed rail in q3 cpma, not vq3. OG cpm ruleset had 100 hp, 0 armor spawn with 100 dmg rail, so you could literally just spawnrape by clicking on people. railgun wasn't nerfed for vq3 where you spawned with 125 hp/0 armor. no ez spawnrapes like in og cpm.

i don't think they changed the armor system from vq3 to ql. cpm had the tiered armor system from qw while ql carried over the vq3 armor system (i don't remember how the ammo system is different between vq3, cpm, and ql). but, technically speaking, ql didn't get all of its balance changes from cpm. only some (nerfed rail, nerfed mg, consistent/non-random shotgun spread pattern, rocket splash).
