It kind of is. It has by far the most in-depth combat, and outside of double jump and air dash, its abilities are really unique, which are implemented in a way that benefits both combat and exploration. It had a lot of original concepts going for it.

It really depends what you want out of the genre. Nine Sols, Hollow Knight/Silksong, and the Ori games are some of the standouts of the last few years, but depending on what you specifically like you can drill deeper.

The truth is that Ubisoft makes very solid games every time. This company has also several house engines.

Ubisoft tends to make run-of-the-mill, milquetoast games. While Lost Crown isn't exactly one for the books, it's surprisingly decent, good even

such an underrated game, completely ignored by so many people.
The funny thing is if you don't like the way the prince looks you can just change his appearance to sands of time prince or other models they have to switch out the character model, and the real one will only appear in cutscenes

But even AC Shadows is good, for example. It gets the job done.
It's a big open world, they've improved the combat, and the graphics on PC are amazing. It might be forgettable, but you can spend time on it without noticing the time go by. So it gets the job done.
Of course, you still have to like the open world formula. I know some people are resistant to it.

I'm looking forward to trying it out. The last Metroid-ISH game I played was that Strider game from around 2013 or so. Man was that lousy. Ugly and dull. What a waste of a reboot. Two things I like rolled into one, but they let total rookies develop it.
I wonder if the devs of this PoP have made anything worthwhile.

I liked the DLC for its harder platforming and am glad I did it ASAP, since it disables abilities you'd normally unlock after continuing past the DLC's first availability.
I think the plot is a little dumb but it's otherwise a good game; I played it on gamepass and probably would have pirated it rather than paying for it.
