You get people uploading full playthroughs of games weeks before the thing actually comes out, there's a fuckload of previews, trialers and news outlets giving their impressions about games too. I can understand maybe being blindsided by a story being shit if you're trying to avoid spoilers, but given the amount of info on any game you're able to immediately access, you have no reason to buy a game that you end up not enjoying from a gameplay perspective.

And this is just me talking about someone who wants to pre-order a game (which you should never do anyways, especially right after an announcement), if the game has already been out for a while you need to be a deluxe dumbfuck to end up grabbing something you don't like since you can find 100+ reviews on said game by that point.

yeah, Warhammer Space marines 2 is a bad game. Looks amazing, vibe is great but super bad gameplay to the point it ruins the vibe again because I never feel like there is a real xenos threat approaching me, just NPC units. I think a large part of the problem is that you don't have collision, you can literally walk through everything, your squad mates, other humans, etc. It makes it all feel fake and arcadey.

Just recently Sonic Racing Crossworlds.
I'd hesitate to call it shit and I had no real interest in it in the immediate term (I'll play all kart racing games eventually) but everyone just seemed so insistent on it despite it not really looking much better than Team Sonic Racing. Then I get it and get bored within a couple of hours. There's basically no single player content as like fighting games they banked all of their popularity on the online. Items are unbalanced and chaotic to shit even by kart racing game standards despite making a point that they removed shitty ones which is just a complete lie. I suspected this from the start but it confirmed to me that the hype was almost completely artificial 90's styte guerrilla marketing from fans and a bit of Sega themselves designed to "punish" Nintendo for their missteps with MKW, At least TSR actually had single player content. To me the first Sonic All Stars Racing game still hasn't been topped.

I played ZZZ on launch till like 1.6, dropped the game because after they removed the TVs everything outside of the combat was menial work. Events were dogshit, story went absolutely nowhere after a year. Them downgrading the 10/10 style and setting by giving it a massive 2.0 injection of Honkai-Wuxia was the final blow.

Every few months they drop a new character teaser and it reaffirms my decision. Cunning Hares were fucking PEAK design. Burnice was peak hype, her trailer was so fun and silly. Bangboos are adorable and great mascots. Other hoyo games have enough asian tabards.

Having played it there's nothing it does better than the other three games that came before it. It never looked like it would do anything else either, in fact it kept the shitty team racing thing from TSR as a game mode as well which everyone rightly hated then. Only thing it does is the mid race track selection for the second lap which is hardly revolutionary.

NTA but combat definitely had problems. To an extent it did feel like "mash attack until something on your UI lights up to tell you it's time to press a different button". Character kits were fairly barebones, chain attacks were flat-out awful, can't jump, only one character could ult (which to be fair they fixed, but ult animation lengths were still based around only one character ulting per rotation). I'm not surprised people bounced off the combat.

Mihoyo really cook d with the designs in zzz. The girls are so hot. Such a waste for them to be trapped in such a shit game

Some of them were good games, but he harassed me in the game enough that it gave me a bad aftertaste. I still feel like I would have LOVED Helldivers 1 if I had just got a chance to play without him player-killing me.

Naturally, any game I tried to get him to play, he refunded after shitting on it openly for 20 minutes. No idea how that "friendship" lasted so long.
