Is resident evil 5 worth playing co-op? Me and a buddy have never played it before and were considering trying it out. And does it need any fan patches/mods to fix things up these days? I know it was GFWL initially, but I think that got patched out. The pcgaming wiki seems to list a lot of various fan things, but I don't know if they predate removing GWFL or what. Basically we're just looking for minor qol/fixes, trying to keep it mostly vanilla

Yes, it's very fun co-op. You don't need any mods, it plays fine straight from Steam. I replayed it a few years back with a friend.

One of the best co-op games ever made, and honestly you should never play this game alone. They patched GFWL years ago and there's a couple of mods that remove the filter, this game came out during the era of video games when devs putted filters to make games more brown, grey or yellow so there should be an updated guide to remove the filter and make the game look better. Also, I think Capcom added splitscreen too, so that's a nice option

It works out of the box, even with local co-op. I just went through it with someone earlier this summer. Only ran into one problem with the second Uruoboros boss in 5-2 which is a known issue. It just wouldn't take damage, I think ultimately I used a rocket launcher but I Think you might can adjust your FPS cap to get past it. Additionally, I think they disabled the QTEs by default though so if you want the "original" challenge you have to turn them on.

The campaign is fun with a friend and it has some fantastically ridiculous setpieces and cutscenes.

Yeah, that's an issue with the Xbone/PS4 versions as well. Spent like 30 minutes on that fight because it would never die. Thought I was being retarded because I never had an issue with it on X360.

huh, that's weird. I've never played it but I know re5 is a qte game, so disabling them just doesn't seem right. I vaguely recall hearing something about there being issues with the qtes on pc though, like with it displaying the wrong button? but maybe that was just a controller problem and you just had to know which button was "8" on your particular controller or something, but why would you not use mkb for this anyway

The game is absolutely worth playing

it's the best way to play it, by far

played through it again coop last year and iirc the only qol fix i'd say you need now is the one that lets you use just the laser pointer with mouse aim. there's also fov increases if the default one feels too tight, but i just got used to it.

imo removing the color grading entirely looks bad too, if there was a way to just lessen it by like half or 2/3rds that would be perfect

which mods for the filter? The "care package" one worked before the last patch, but I can't find any other filter mods that don't require reshade.

Yes, it's a blast and can be played out of the box on Steam with no issues. RE5Fix is nice though for the wider FOV and undoing the piss filter if you so desire. And installing it won't affect online play so it's totally up to your preference.

As is the only thing Id recommend for it is borderless gaming. They took out gfwl, fixed most of the major problems and made qtes optional.
If you have any issues with enemies getting stuck the host needs to cap their fps in settings to unstick them but otherwise its pretty much good to go as is.

I must've finished this game at least 8 times. Idk why people say it needs co-op. It's just as fun without it. The final boss fight's QTE is impossible on the highest difficulty though, I always hated that.

Not sure about that, but I do know they automatically do a bunch of them for you if you play on the easiest difficulty.

OP, dunno if you need to beat the campaign first, but the best parts of RE5 are Mercenaries and Desperate Escape. Mercs is a straight upgrade from RE4, and DE is a little mini-campaign where the only weapons, ammo, and healing items you get are whatever you can find or get off of dead enemies. Both are far more action packed than the story campaign.

I meant more in the sense that there's a lot of weird things, like the camera angle trying to autoa center, but only when you run, or the mouse sensitivity being wildly different between standing/walking/running. just a lot of very weird little janky bits, but I'll get used to it eventually

Double so in Mercs. Being able to have one player scavenge everything nearby while the other keeps the horde at bay makes a huge difference. Plus the player scavenging can pass ammo and stuff to the player busy shooting. Between the two, it's a lot easier keeping you and your partner supplied in Mercs when it's two humans.

6 is different. It intentionally punishes co-op players with two retarded decisions:
1. You share skill points and loadouts. Only player 1 is allowed to spend skill points and design loadouts, so player 2 always feels like they're just playing with their hand-me-downs.
2. They couldn't fix the AI from the previous game, so their solution was just to make the NPC partner straight up invincible when you're playing single player.
This means that if you do co-op, you're intentionally making the game harder by sharing your ammo, upgrades, and health items when you ordinarily wouldn't.

I just played the game again solo and you can tell the game was designed with co-op in mind.
Even while playing solo, it was still a fun game.
If you do plan on playing solo, strip out Sheva's inventory, and just give her the stun rod.
Also the game still looks damn good to this day.

One of the best coop shooters you can buy and still fun solo as well or just for Mercenary mode. 6 isn't that bad neither but it gets a bad reputation from having too much involved and trying to please everyone with fan service.

I found that giving Sheva machinegun weapons and rifle weapons is the way to go. Her AI is a crackshot with the rifle and is also very conservative with SMG ammo for some reason (compared to using handguns like a bullet hose)

AI Sheva not being able to use grenades/landmines is a straight-up disadvantage though

That's pretty much because the game sets the QTE's for the quickturn and find partner buttons, which by default are F and V which catches everyone off guard
>>723045953
>>723047809
I just did RE6 co op and the first point is straight up wrong at least for online co-op, skill points were separate and we chose our own skills. If anything it's easier than 5 because each players loot drops are separated, meaning you don't have to ration out and trade ammo constantly. Invincible AIs seem correct though because I don't remember any going down during the crossover sections.

Consider playing on Veteran difficulty because the game is piss easy with a human partner, the first level's hold out section may kick your ass a bit but it's smooth from there out.
