Decided to try out pic related finally. Should I pick normal or hard?
Anonymous No.723036512 [Report]
>>723036225 (OP)
Normal. Get familiar with the game's combat and mechanics before playing a mode where you take more damage from enemies with even more health. You're going to be using melee weapons a lot. Remember you don't have to fight every enemy you face and running might be a better option to conserve health items and ammo, regardless of difficulty.

play hard. normal is way too soft for the amount of healing supplies and ammo you'll have. if you play with any sort of care you're basically going to negate the game. hard isn't overly tedious or spongey and is much closer to an appropriate horror experience.

hard if anything encourages you to avoid combat more often but it's really just about a more cohesive experience. it makes sense for a survival horror game to have a little pressure instead of being an effortless cakewalk, at least in sh1's case that's fairly reasonably balanced on hard.

I think if you're asking this question you're someone that dislikes when a game is too easy but you also don't want to dive into a horribly shitty tedious hard mode. I would give you the go ahead to play on hard, it's not particularly obnoxious or tedious as far as hard modes go.

Easy. Normal is way too hard. You only get 15 bullets for the first enemy in the game which takes 5 bullets to shoot and flies around very fast. So in theory if you miss 2 shots before you hit (very easy with tank controls and flying enemy), the game could be softlocked on the first enemy. And it gets even harder from there with many flyint enemies in the fog plus your running speed, is very slow

Next Fear gives you bullet adjust which increases the amount bullet drops give to 2x (then 3x next time you beat the game all the way up to 6x, you can enable this in the options menu, L1/R1 to scroll to the other options) and allows you to go for 10 star rank playthroughs if you're into that, you need to unlock the other endings first

100%, it's the root of the series and critical to truly understanding the other two. SH2's story features different characters but it's a subversion of the first game in a lot of ways. and i don't think you can really appreciate how SH3 is doing all these callbacks to the first game unless you play it yourself.

That's me. Yakuza and Kingdom Hearts and Crisis Core taught me to consider if Hard Mode was worth it or not.
Anonymous No.723051547 [Report]
SH1 just had one difficulty selection instead of it being separated based on combat and puzzles right? Play hard, the games shower you with items and you just gotta not fight 99% of enemies anyway. I don’t think SH1’s hard mode makes the puzzles harder, but if you play the later games, always do Normal Puzzles Hard Combat on a first run. The hard puzzles can actually stump you for a good while, especially in 3.

playing 2 on hard is really dumb, the enemies are just as easy to kill they just take 6 hits instead of 2 or 3. it's really not worth it unless you have to for 10 star runs like SH1, idk off the top of my head as i've never quite engaged in that level of autism with the games before.

probably the closest thing to a ghost the series has outside of SH4's specific interpretation. Lisa was blackmailed by the cult and given the drug they produce and apparently also magically imbued to keep living in order to take care of Alessa. according to Masahiro Ito she was driven insane by a drug overdose and killed by Valtiel. somehow she was reanimated as a manifestation to tend to Alessa.

Anonymous No.723057962 [Report]
>>723056574
>>723056981
>The exact nature of Lisa's post-death condition is never clarified directly. Silent Hill 2 establishes that unreal human beings can manifest from the memories and desires of those who enter the town. One such being is Maria, who materialized from the subconscious of James Sunderland and shared physical characteristics with his late wife Mary. Unaware that she is a manifestation, she would periodically experience amnesia and would sometimes guide him on his journey through Silent Hill. The dark world in the original game manifested the delusions of Alessa, who spent years being treated by Lisa in the hospital basement.

>Alternatively, the Lost Memories guidebook and a memo in Silent Hill 3 explain that the lingering thoughts of people who died in the town suddenly by suicide or by accident can cause their spirits to remain trapped in the area where it happened. These spirits have lost their human senses and memories. Unaware that they are dead, they can only relive the moments before their demise. In Silent Hill, Lisa only appears in Alchemilla Hospital and exclusively in the Otherworld and Nowhere. She is unaware that she is dead, frequently reaching out to Harry for help. One of the game's designers, Masahiro Ito, believes that Lisa is "very close" to being a ghost or spirit.

played on normal; think hard would have been doable but probably not worth it

I actually missed the hunting rifle my first go through, so I got to the final boss without enough firepower to kill it (bad end boss too) so I actually had to reload a save way back at the hospital and run through it again. Luckily most of the time between the hospital and nowhere can just be ran through avoiding enemies.
