the funny thing is.. even if the multiplayer part works perfectly with good performance, i still would have 0 interest in the pvpve aspect of it, i tried it for like an hour and then refunded. im pretty sure im not the only one and the fact that you need a pretty good pc to run at more than 30 fps means it will always be super niche. atleast it keeps most third worlders away i guess

cry engine was never meant for this project, you'll are playing in a sandbox in scam citizen , nothing works everything glitches , the most basic of things are maybe implemented , there are like what 3 planets ?

this is all by design, roberts will keep this shit in perpetual early access and this way he's basically running a company as CEO and paying employees. maybe in 20 years once he's fucking 60 years old he'd be like
>ah well guys you know what maybe we cant do it yet haha oops sorry
meanwhile bastard raked billions.

books will be written on this shit. i bet my EVERYTHING roberts is just abusing the early access thing , basically glorified kickstarter hoaxes.

remember the sand worms ? lol yeah, fucking bullshit. they are producing concept art.

fuck Roberts and his entire fucking bloodline and all the losers who support that fucking hack. how more obvious do you need it to be ?

you know what retards im making a matrix game, yeah its in perpetual development because "le matrix" its complicated and shiet am i rite gimme money.

fuck you Chris. i will dance on your fucking grave you ugly munchkin man. hope that 10k enterprise slide door cuts your dick in half you, your ancestors will carry the burden of being ashamed by being related to the incel that stole billions, because you cant keep this shit forever.

I don't believe people who still spend money on this are even "gamers" anymore but just "investors" who truly believe that this will be the Next Big Thing.
They are people who think they will be able to trade their virtual ships like you trade gold. Smell like the biggest video game scam.
You know what a man said once : "the higher you climb, the harder the fall". I can't wait to see this game bomb and laugh at people crying for being ruined by it.

Every space game is built with compromises because you cant do everything and get the game out. Star Citizen promised to do everything and the kitchen sink so it's no shock that it's taking forever, the scope is too big. They should have just focused on releasing a barebones game first and then moving to the next one.

Who was the black guy who was a game producer or something who put lot of money in the game. Later he said the whole thing is undo able and he was one of the first ones to call is a scam. He made a simmilar space themed game which was decent.

Really? From what I've seen the people who seem the most still invested in the game are the type who would otherwise built their own pilot cockpit at home to play flight simulator. Like people who only play a few games but not for playing games, but simulating an experience and are well-off enough that to them putting five figures into some niche bullshit is just a hobby investment they don't really think about, because if it wasn't something like this, they wouldn't have anything to spend all their extra money on anyway.

This game made me realize (just from watching luckily) that it is dumb to ever fund an unreleased game, if that means the game will make more money by not releasing. Even if there was ever the intent to release anything in a timely manner, why would they now instead of dragging it out to the bitter end? Not only because of the greed and scam aspect, but even seen as a regular company, releasing the game now means cutting off most of the revenue they do their finances with and they have nothing to replace that with.

It's especially bad for the process of art making itself.
It ruins focus, pressure dynamics and team cohesion if it's done by people lacking certain creative professionalism and extremely high competence as a whole.
And it ruins perception of projects in public, because you pay not for full course meals, but for breadcrumbs mid-baking, or brushes on canvas in place of actual paintings.
Much like running a convoy, if you make a project, there's no place for unneccessary detours or really bad errors on course.

Crowdfunding is a mistake that allows scammers and opportunists to milk chumps, allows the incompetent to be lulled into a trap of overestimating their competence, and allows skilled but ethically lacking devs to cut corners in products.

That post misses the critical point that existed from the very start, going so far as to be baked into the highest original backer tier: multi-person crews. Someone will own the ship, sure, but many can be part of what is done with it. What originally had people excited was just crewing a ship with a few friends and going off and doing stuff. No guild involved.

For my part, I just want S42 and might try out persistent if a small group to do it with is apparent for me.

He's retired because of course he is, the target audience for Star Citizen is (I think fairly consciously at this point) guys too old or out-of-touch to have any idea of what is and isn't possible to make as a game. Like it's basically all 40 year olds, 50 year olds, 60 sometimes... sorry to any 40-somethings in the room with us but if you are at that age you very possibly have a wife and a full-time job and maybe a kid. Your hobbies' main cost on your resources becomes time and not money. Then you hear about Chris making the fucking everything-game, and you're like wow, video games must be further along than I thought if this guy thinks he can pull this off.

Idk. It's a new sort of elderly scam operation, aimed this time at guys who self-conceive as "lifelong geeks" or whatever.

The most insane thing that I don't see anyone commenting on is that the Squadron 42 sales page has been down for years.
First of all, their store is called the "Pledge Store". Imagine walking into a store to do some shopping, and the guy tells you something like, "Wait, we don't sell stuff here, here you make pledges to us, and maybe we'll deliver something to you at some unspecified point in the future". At least you can say that the store owners are honest that they have no intention of actually delivering the things you buy, LOL.
But anyway, about 10 years ago there was an option to ""buy"" Squadron 42 in this store, and it said that you would receive a digital download of the game.
There are people who did that in 2015, and to this day, not only have they been unable to access the game download, but if they try to fucking access the page, they get a 404 error.

But asking fans for money is exactly their business. If someone in 2011 says, "Give me money and I'll make the game of your dreams", and in 2025 that same person is saying, "Give me money and I'll make the game of your dreams", then you can safely conclude that making the game isn't exactly this person's priority.
In fact, their fundraising this year is the largest in the history of the project.
So we can say that their business of asking for money is being successful. Game development? That doesn't matter much, as long as the core business continues to function.

>spam enemy hideouts and gang variety
>put enemy hideouts in the cities as well so you can earn money without a ship
>just put alien NPCs and ships out in the world
And instead of the enemies spawning in when 1 person accepts the quest, just have them spawn "first come, first serve" style so players can run into each other clearing them. Idk seems like doing that would require you to develop zero new assets and you could fill out the world instead of animating a bunch of animals or something. They could always replace that kind of filler copy-paste content later as long as it was full of something.
