RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is a great game, but once you play it for long enough you start to recognize every single mechanic and constraint in the game. At that point, the game becomes easy, and you can beat most scenarios with the same strategy. In other words, it has a low skill ceiling

But people still love the game and it has a large community 25 years later. Why does the low skill ceiling not affect its legacy?

None of these RTS tycoons were made to be hard. From SimCity to Zoo it's always
>Wow! If i pay attention to the numbers going up and down and read carefully about the stats of "The 1000$ Nice clean miracle solar panel powerplant" vs "The 50$ cancer factory T-3000 coal burning shithole" i will figure out what to do
Chris Sawyer just wanted to make autism time waster for people who like railroads and amusement parks like he does. It's like taking care of a aquarium or ant farm, the joy of seeing something "working" under your control, the connecting parts, the self-automation, the pointless but always beautiful to the eyes decoration.

Nobody not once said you have to build the most optimal or efficient anything in any video game. If you believe the 'ceiling' is your limit then you will never walk on the roof.

Playing RCT2 to "win" is dumb. Play to build the coolest park you can build

>Once you increase your skill in a game over time by learning the mechanics and making observations then it isn't as challenging anymore

Wow
Truly a revelation.

This thread changed my life.

Okay dumbass. In the abstract this logical fallacy applies to every video game ever made.

But some games have a lower skill ceiling than others, and it’s undeniable that games with an especially low skill ceiling get boring quicker.

I’m just asking the open question as to why a low skill ceiling game can still be legendary and garner a large community

Reminds me of when I played through the RCT3 campaign and I came up with a strategy that worked for almost every park
>Get rid of all rides and coasters
>Put one-way path signs everywhere to corral everyone back to the entrance of the park (if the park is already full of people)
>Delete all the extra paths, stalls, and scenery once everyone is by the park entrance (will usually give a lot of extra cash)
>Build new coasters, rides, and stalls, but have all of it clustered near the park entrance
Having everything in a small area drastically reduces the cost of running the park.

Most people don’t care about skill ceilings they just care about the game being fun and entertaining. The Sims and Animal Crossing have virtually no ceiling and they’ve succeeded since release. RCT is a game where you can fuck around and make a park themed around idk, anal sex rides, with skeletons. And it’ll work. Like nobody minmaxes in RCT, the game is barely asking you to do that it just wants you to make a park that can function.

>low skill ceiling game
holy shit shut up. This is a creative game. The only "skill" that you can really do to win scenarios is soulless spamming micro coasters.

>Why does the low skill ceiling not affect its legacy?
Because not everyone is a gay nigger like you. Also most people have the sense to play ORCT2 and install a bunch of custom scenarios and use cheats to mix and match parts from different rides for shits and giggles

you can win the scenario but your park looks like ass. it was never about winning
you don't play a city builder to hit an arbitrary goal and be like "alright fuckers, you served your purpose imma bounce" and never play the city again
