I genuinely don't think there's a genre out there sorrier than roguelites. With the advent and popularity of Binding of Isaac, it's been overrun with all manner of bums trying to get their piece of the pie or bloat their game's run time. The genre has trended so far downward that we are at the point where nearly all of them fall into one of two categories: they either feel like they're holding a significantly better game hostage with their roguelite mechanics, or they're literal skinner boxes for gambling addicts in denial. The latter category in particular has gotten embarrassingly blatant with Vampire Survivors, Balatro, and now this. It's barely-designed slop that almost entirely plays itself, not asking anything of the player (including brain activity), except to do their best impression of a hopeless 62-year-old divorced man gambling their savings away in Vegas. Seriously, you ask these profligates what they enjoy about these "games", and the best they can come up with is "buh... i like dopamine hehehe". And the worst part is, for their lack of effort, they get overwhelming critical acclaim. You people are cooked.

This sadly has been my experience with the majority of roguelikes. I've very very rarely liked the game for being a roguelite and instead in spite of being one.
