How stupid of a reveal would it be if the ultimate source of the Combine was Wheatley? After a contrived journey through space over millions of years, going through a wormhole or something to another universe or back in time, somehow accumulating resources and power from different alien civilizations and leading them into supremacy. All of this because Wheatley's only form of creativity is "Combining" test chambers and objects together through intense smashing. Those turret cubes essentially becoming the ancient ancestors of Synths.

Ultimately both companies are directly and indirectly curated by glowniggers.

But Black Mesa is an actual occult company whose purpose was to mess up realities, and whose personnel still affect things, and whose achievements were partially public.
While Aperture is a seemingly pointless also occult wreck of grand achievements that ultimately goes nowhere even considering the multi-dimensional experiment project, unless you count the theory that the Combine are what Aperture Science becomes in the future.

Even considering science for its own sake Aperture fails at it, simply because its so dead inside.
Aperture is impressive, yet wholly meaningless.
