Ignoring budgets, ignoring AAA and ignoring whatever else. The price of video games was $60 for nearly two decades. Inflation has gone up far more in that time. Did you honestly think that video games would stay $60 forever and were immune to inflation?

Answer honestly.

What killed the AAA industry wasn't 70 dollars, it was medicore forgettable games, 70 dollars just cemented its death. What was the last AAA game from a major publisher that legit made you say "Damn, what an incredible game."? At best, it's just focused tested to death "ok" games. I haven't played either Expedition 33 or Silksong, but people are clearly passionate about those games in a way people normally aren't for AAA games, not just because they charged less money (though that certainly doesn't hurt) AAA games are just mid/bad now, simple as

So if we assume games must charge more inevitably due to inflation, would you prefer this be done via those battle passes, day 1 dlc and lootboxes, or simply the game asking for more up front? Keep in mind that the more live service shit is required to make money, the more it will define design.

yours is a rhetoric perpetuated by goycattle.
you seemed to have also ignored wage growth, which has long been stagnant relative to inflation, even in the games industry where wages are notoriously low.

The problem is on two fronts: Corporations being the scummiest entities in existence that will do everything they can legally get away with to extract money from retards, and the retarded consoomer who will buy it anyway.

Despite owning a Switch with a fuckhuge library built up over 9 years, I refuse to buy a Switch 2 out of principle. I do not buy games at full price because I'm not an impatient retard. You cry out "MUH INFLASHUN", and I can counter with in-game ads, subscription services, having to pay for online play if you're not using PC, scummy DLC practices, battle passes, digital storefronts rendering manufacturing costs to virtually nothing, and the advent of indie titles that BTFO of AAA slop.

All of those things supplement the so-called rising development costs. Prices aren't what they're becoming today because of inflation or rising development costs you retard, they're becoming this way because of corporate greed and said corporations knowing full well that retards will buy it anyway. See: Jewtendo.

Weren't all of those tricks made specifically TO keep 60 dollar games profitable?
>game budget goes up
>price doesn't change
>"oh fuck we need more money"
>"do this nobody will tell the difference"
Most of /v/ has definitely caught on and doesn't mindlessly consume (I hope), but I'm 100% positive that normalfags will happily slurp up whatever financial model is thrown their way. Most normalfags have probably spent so much money on 60 dollar games with battle passes, day 1 dlc and lootboxes that a ten dollar difference realistically shouldn't mean shit. But to SEE that price reflected on a sticker, NOW suddenly that 10 dollar difference is too much.
Anonymous No.723064887 [Report]
Just because the standard is $70/60 doesn't mean you have to retail for that much. Devs can choose to sell for less like E33 and still be hugely successful.

Yeah, and?

Do you want more free to play forever-online slop? Phone games and un-losable mobile RPGs designed to keep retention on literally the dumbest people capable of earning income?

The industry suffers when it caters to morons. Games need to be funded, that money comes from someone, that someone with the money sees Fortnite and Black Desert making a trillion fucking dollars and says, "Make me one of those, I want more money and fuck the people that care about video games."

I want the industry to take chances on someone's passionate ideas again. I want VR games with as much quality as Half Life Alyx released every four to five months. I would happily pay $100-$500 for amazing games that blew me away. Games that made me feel like it's the year 2025 and not still 2012.

I won't pay $70 for rehashed shit that isn't half as good nor revolutionary as Skyrim. I don't fucking need Mario Kart 12 or Assassin's Creed Tatarstan. I want to feel excited for a game release again. I want to look at screenshots and say "Holy shit!". I want game previewers to freak the fuck out at their copy.

It's also not my fault that 93% of all player's game time is spent in multiplayer games that are over 10 years old and that only around 7% of people are buying and playing new games.

Inflation is as real as the value of funny fiat currency, but it stems from bullshit jew kikery literally spawning in wealth out of nothing through loans, interest, and usury and the system adjusts for it by printing the money to match the wealth they decided to create and give themselves, thus making themselves wealthier doing absolutely nothing but sitting on it, and devaluing the wealth of the actual working classes labour. Did you know in just the last couple years since covid when they started printing like crazy if you had been working 50 odd years up till now, of all the money you might've saved up, 30%+ just went up in smoke? Anonymous No.723082927 [Report]
Honestly if you have even... let's say five games in your backlog, and haven't reached the credits in all of them yet... Why are you even concerned about buying new games at all?

Like everyone here probably has unplayed games. Not just unfinished ones that you dropped after a while, I mean you statistically are bound to have a couple dozen games you got but didn't even start yet.

So this idea that $70 games are a big ask is kind of built off a false premise because literally why are you even buying new games to begin with?

We didn't worry about any of this shit in the 90s. We rented, and in the 2000s we relied on used copies. Then once the 2010s rolled around you had endless digital sales so you could effectively buy 12 games for $70 if not more, all of which would last you far longer too.

I just... Think it's a pointless discussion at its core.
