Most pokemon above that are either legendaries or really bulky like Snorlax, Wobuffet, Slaking, and Blissey. No one is arguing that gen 4 is not slower. Funnily enough Diamond was my reintroduction to Pokemon after never finishing Sapphire years prior, and I hated everything about it. Most of Sinnoh's Pokemon look ugly to me and still do, all the gen 1 Pokemon that gained evolutions are just obese (though I'd eventually come to like some of them like Rhyperior and Magnezone), battles are slow, having Bibbarel on my team 90% of the game fucking sucked. Nah, most of the bad Megas in 6 were just overdone. Stuff like Mega Aerodactyl and Garchomp were bad because they took a strong design and make it hard to look at. While the good ones feel like reasonable additions or the next evolutionary step for that concept (Audino, Absolm Mawile, Lucario, Ampharos, Pidgeot).
Megas here in Z-A are VERY hit-or-miss, there's a clearly different design intention and goals with them that doesn't work out. Instead of adding something to make them more "metal" or standout or following a logical extreme, Z-A Megas are more about exaggerating a pre-existing trait that can either make them really good (Hawlucha, Delphox, or Emboar) or incredibly goofy (Chandelure, Malamar, STARMIE). Megas as a whole are going to be hit-or-miss by their very nature, but Z-A seems to...not get why people wanted them back? At least with these pretty rough screenshots and not seeing them in action.

Probably never, since Gen 6 just didn't got anything that actively fixed its problems. ORAS was mainly a sidegrade, overall an improvement but had its own assortment of dealbreakers for people. Meanwhile, for all its own problems, BW2 was such a big step above BW1 in the gameplay department, people can just enjoy it. Having things like a real postgame (if the Battle Maison doesn't count, the Battle Subway REALLY doesn't. To his credit, it's not like every regional form had real meaning. Alolan Raichu got that way from eating too many pancakes and being loved. Alolan Exeggecutor became a dragon because of excess UV radiation. We already have a timeskip, so you can just bullshit some reasons, especially with how many uncharted places there was in XY.
Again, there is some debate on how much you can consider Regional Formes as "new mons". And convergent evos like Kleavor are definitely a weeeiiirrrdddd case. But it is silly to expect brand new mons in a game like the Legends titles, especially given how weird they have to be to accommodate the different systems.

I kind of agree in a vacuum. I always felt, even as a kid, Megas were way too overcentralizing. There is really no good way to pivot or experiment with them, especially with the HUGE gaps in power between something like Salamance and AUDINO. But in a big battle sim like Champions where you have access to all gimmicks and pit them against each other, it is a lot more feasible and malleable. Running a Mega and a G-Max on the same squad means you have real diversity in options without needing to change the entire team. Plus in something like Legends, the different mechanics and ideas means you there is far less teambuilding considerations, so I'm fine as is.

I still prefer THE IDEA of mechanics like D-Max, general power boosts that helps any composition of 6 mons than just one dude and his la squadra of jobbers (since god D-Max was bad). But also I can't say it isn't exciting to see more megas and their potential abilities when they are free from Legends.

You're realistically only going to need one of each fossil then you can just breed which is infinitely superior. Shards are only used to get the weather TMs in DP and for move tutors in Platinum. To get BP you just have to do a few battles and you get more every 21 battles after you fight the frontier brain.
To get the shards in platinum you have to find star pieces which is a fairly rare item as it is and then go to fuego and trade them for a grand total of one shard per color and to use a tutor you need a total of 8 in multiple colors. For example signal beam requires 2 of each color.
In other words, to use at least one tutor you need to find 8 star pieces and from what I can find there's only two daily guaranteed spawns so you have to deal with the RNG of the underground for the other 6 just to use one tutor.
Granted you may find more shards in the underground but that's just more rng.
