Ubisoft and Tencent establish new subsidiary Vantage Studios
>the company today announced the launch of Vantage Studios, the newly created "creative house" now responsible for some of Ubisoft's largest franchises: Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. Led by Charlie Guillemot and Christophe Derennes,
So, Ubisoft plans to abandon its headquarters and focus on operating subsidiaries.
Is Ubisoft leaving the remaining part of its headquarters to fend for itself?

Lol, lmao even

They can split the company for all i care. What matters to me is the stupidly long timespan. Even if they announced any changes or games or whatever TODAY it would take years for anything to actually happen.

Classic "get rid of dead weight be opening new subsidiary"?
Cant fire people?
Start new firm and only allow handpicked employees there, while rug-pull old company (by moving IPs to a new firm)

French and Canadian labor laws do not permit you to do this.
However, you can declare bankruptcy.

This is why ecactly this classic trick.
You build new studio as you like
Old studio is left no IPs and no job, they can do whatever, left to burn.

It's not even 2 weeks. It's like months old, the only thing new is the name of the studio which is frankly totally irrelevant.

Afaik this new company is debt free in order to attract new investment. It's legal bullshit nobody really knows what happens if Ubisoft goes bankrupt.

I recall that Vantage Studios is a wholly-owned independent subsidiary.
Meaning that if Ubisoft were to go bankrupt, it would become an independent company and continue to exist.
Fuck it, they might as well just sell Ubisoft's Prince of Persia and Rayman IPs to Vantage Studios for a dollar too.
That way Ubisoft can just go die.

Yeah the entire plan is to make a company, where they still control all the valuable IPs, but also let people invest/buy up Ubisoft. The #1 thing for the family is to have the IPs

it was part of the contract when tencent gave them an injection of funding so Ubisoft didn't start bankruptcy procedures

That's so scummy and interesting at the same time. So if you want to trim the fat you can just open a subsidiary and move the healthy parts in it and let the main company die to save your skin? Crazy. The funniest part in all of this is that those french fuckers still retain complete control. I don't know how they do it, but they keep having Tencent help them out even though they are the reason why Ubi is a sinking ship. The fucking studio head is a nepo baby that has 0 experience leading a gaming studio.

That's right. He is the son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

If I were the CEO of Ubisoft, I'd declare the company bankrupt and shut it down. How could I minimize employee severance pay?
