Waifumons would be AT LEAST 20ft tall.

I'm playing in the standard difficulty, probably a bit over leveled/stated from trying to get a bunch of different Ultimates, and even I got a bit of a fright during his fight.
I imagine it can be quite the difficulty spike on Hard.
Granted, I'm not optimizing for shit, not my mons moveset, or team comp, or even the Agent skill tree (I maxed the generic tree and am now equally spreading points between personalities), but still.

I'm only following type and elemental advantages, and I pretty much one-shot 80% of digimon I encounter. Haven't even touched the Personality Agent Skills yet for the boosts. Feels like I'm still in the tutorial and I'm 5 hours in. I don't want to be tearing my eyes out every fight but it should be more strategy. Right now I'm just using all offensive and not even bothering with buffs, debuffs, or healing.

That's a good strategy, I bought the burst agent skill, the starting CP skills, and then have specifically focused on things that make the farm better, lowers the digivolution requirements, and increases the experience gain. I haven't bought a single 100 point talent yet, and I'm halfway through agent level 6.

Is there any way to make Aegiomon not a total jobber in the end game? His personality skill is shit and his stats are pathetic. I've been using him as a buff bot but he's even bad at that because he's too slow and goes after everyone.

It's an extremely sub-optimal strategy. Maxing out 1 tree and moving all your digimon into that personality is the most efficient way to quickly boost stats in the game. You're at least doubling all of your stats, with more than that for a couple of them, and you can max it out very quickly. By the midgame you can have two, one for physical and one for magic, ideally Valor and Wisdom so you can make all your physical guys Brave and all your magic guys Astute for the skills that ignore 3% x Agent Rank of enemy DEF/SPI.

My standard for what counts as good for a monster catching rpg is probably Dragon Quest Monster or SMT. Even something as basic as Dragon Quest V can be fun (though I would prefer something with catching system that isn't just random chance). If is it as good as an SNES SMT game that's fine.

The combat gameplay is not incredibly complex, and most enemies seem to be of the same type (virus) and it's not hard to make any one digimon really powerful, so not really.

Yes. Between passives, stats (until you eventually make them meaningless in the endgame), and the agent skills, you can have different mons with different roles, which does add a bit more complexity to the previous point.

They are pretty simple and linear for the most part.
Some have a couple of dead ends for you to explore with a chest or something.

I had Sirenmon (Reverse), Kirinmon, and Rapidmon, all Level ~30. Lowest stat on any of them was 2.5K.
Rapidmon was alright for most of the fight, but Kirinmon died to Shine Bee twice, and Sirenmon was knocked out by the last Shine Bee he did at ~15% health.

The game throws in a shitton of side missions right before the final area but like 65% of them are 'talk to this person, go through dialogue, quest ends here's your 150 agent points', 30% of them you do fetch quests and go fro point A to B or if the game is feeling cruel Point A to point B then back to point A, and the last 5% is collecting 13 or 17 items either scattered in 1 time period or through all the areas you went to int he game.
And so far, for postgame there's like 2 fights you unlock in the arena and that's it if you did every sidequest before then and the Olympus XII fight which if you just in underleveled and underprepared like I did you will eat shit.
Doesn't give anything extra but you get data for almost everything you fight there and you get a shitton of exp and yen.

The 02 cast gets shafted in the most ridiculous out of character way imaginable, it uses the lore of the first group of chosen children as the crux of the main villain's goal but in a way that doesn't explain anything nor make sense in the context of what we've seen previously in the adventure. Then there's also them introducing Yggy and the Royal Knights into adventure for literally zero reason beyond fan service despite all the questions that would logically raise. The new character only exists for the sake of the tragic ending since she's the only one who has to lose anything and she never returns after that outside of a literal blink in the Beyond music video

Kizuna is a movie with a story that only exists because of negative character development on Tai and Matt's part and because it introduces a diabolos ex machina into the adventure setting when no such concept was ever introduced nor does it make sense given the backstory of adventure and how digimon are born. The entire point is that you shouldn't cut away at yourself in order to grow up but Menoa's back story confuses the fuck out of this which is why many people interpret it as "Growing up means abandoning Digimon"

IIRC, the director and writer knew nothing about Adventure or Digimon in general before being hired to work on Tri and just skimmed through wikis before starting to work on it. That's why it has post-Adventure lore like Yggdrasil and the RKs awkwardly shoved in.
