Hey Croatian government, make the lives from 2 and score system from Next Encounter as the standard for the series. Force the player to only load from checkpoint or level starts

Yeah, the new engine couldn't support any sort of weird gravity, so they had to go around it. For example this room in The Pit now has little ledges that push you around instead of letting you walk around it freely

Because nu-game engines cannot render the physics rooms the original had. This is why you never see per sector gravity shifting or irregular geometry in modern games. The technology is lost. The engines wont do it without massive performance drops.

First and Second encounter, yeah. BFE is pretty fucking horrible though. There were a lot of really fucking retarded design decisions with some of the enemies. Cloned soldiers are annoying due to their hitscan nature. Arachnoid juveniles are fucking awful due to the fact that they're now about waist height, desert brown making them blend in with the map, and still hitscan (which wasn't too bad in TFE and TSE since they were xbox huge and bright orange so they were easy to spot but now they're fucking horrible). Helicopters are fucking annoying because not only are they hitscan but can only be damaged by explosive weapons (which is especially annoying in parts where the only thing you've got to fight them is the rocket launcher due to how slow rockets are). Those fucking cave monkeys or whatever they're called are fucking horrible because while they don't really pose much of a threat, they actively avoid you when you're looking in their direction by climbing on pillars and moving to the opposite sides of them so dealing with them is just annoying. The witch bride would be alright as a boss enemy but they use it as a standard enemy thrown in with large hordes of enemies so they're just fucking horrible (basically they're this really annoying enemy that warps around the battlefield and is completely invulnerable until right before it attacks and when it does attack it does so by using telekinesis to lift you off the ground dealing DoT and rendering you helpless to all the enemies taking pot shots at you while you're floating there).
Basically BFE is shit so you're best off pretending it doesn't even exist. I haven't played SS4 so I can't speak much about that one. I just kind of lost faith in Croteam after BFE.

BFE gets a major improvement through Fusion.
IIRC shotty and AR mags get a bit bigger, and both have better accuracy, reloads and weapon swaps can be done while sprinting, and a lot of enemies get alternative attacks. The tweaks to starter weapons don't sound like much, but they are absolutely transformative for the early game, and later horde fights get hectic thanks to all the tricky overlapping fire patterns.
Not a complete redemption, but a big step up.

I basically skipped every cutscene so I barely even know anything about the game's story but from what little I watched it's just weird how much the story elements and cutscenes clashed with the actual gameplay. It's like the writers and team behind the cutscenes didn't even know what fucking game they were working on and thought they were writing dialogue and animating cutscenes for a heavily story based RPG without a lot of action or a walking sim.
