What's annoying is that I don't hate the art entirely. Some of the coloring is pretty nice. Technically sound mostly. It's just a shame these artists weren't trained to do something beyond the boilerplate WoW/mobile aesthetic.

you can kinda nudge it too by making sure you keep some skills at level 2 so you can upgrade them instead of taking a skill that doesn't help you ascend. traveling circuses can be a trap because of this, you max out your skills and then all 3 of what you're offered aren't what you need

Game is actually great. The visuals are a mixed bag.

The point, at least in the old games, was that each faction preferred something specific incentivizing you to make movement choices based on that. You needed a lot of those rare resources and there wasn't always a lot of them. I'm not sure how economy works out in this game and I'm not a big fan of needing the dust for upgrade buildings. Heroes 6 did indeed compress those tertiary resources into one but instead made virtually everything required it so it was no different than wood or ore and in fact was almost more important than gold in some cases. So that didn't work out very well either.

I've done 0 loss auto-sieges too which should be impossible unless you can resurrect dudes.
To be fair I was playing with the new faction and having extra units on top of your actual army makes it really easy to not lose units when doing manual battles too.
The autobattler is really silly. Sometimes you'll get a "you lost some units" result, proceed to battle and just mash w and shoot with your ranged units and win without losing anyone. What.

Played around an hour of the demo.
Art style on the map was unreadable for me, kept missing resources because they blend with the background, stacks of enemies look like you can bypass them but you can't and resource nodes that look like you can easily reach them were actually blocked by terrain.
Also not a fan of how easily you can reach the max tier units, played dungeon and got the dragons really quickly. Got like 2-3 of them and every enemy stack dropped two levels of threat. The UI is also meh,overlapping elements that made it so you can't close or click on certain elements and especially the mage tower UI was garbage. While the idea of unlocking and upgrading spells is interesting I'd honestly prefer to just boot up HoMM 3 and play that instead of this.

-Way too many towns, like can't go 10m without finding a new empty town

I did a run with the schism specialist, and its like a soft capped necro. Easier to get off the ground and rewards multiple fights per day. I think I was getting around 25-30% of my stack as a freebie on top, and with how good the schism units are, it was an absolute steamroll against the AI.
And yeah, so far, T4-6 units seem to have the largest impact for me.

They are the hardest missions of all Homm history. I honestly think they didn't play test them on Heroic.. If you manage to hold Teal in the Orc mission with insane cheese strats the AI breaks.
