Obligatory reply about how bad the level curve is and how I can't play an RPG if it expects me to sit down and grind and not just cruise through the story like a movie.

It's everything a sequel should be. It added new features that improved on things from the first game while keeping the heart and soul of the original alive.
Gen 1 was a better RPG despite being broken.
Gen 2 would be way better with a rebalance, which is why HGSS kicks so much ass.
Gen 3 and Gen 4 are very comparable to 1 and 2.
5 is different but fun.
The attempts to create in-fighting between the 2D games are dumb.
My only issues are of course the level curve and distribution, which if I am gonna be completely honest, not that big of a deal. More so with my physical and digital copies I can always trade or raise later Johto mons if I ever feel like replaying them.
People should ideally play these games in small chunks of time every day rather than speed walking through the entire thjng.
This. Analyzing Gold and Silver without its context would be a disservice. The improvements made as a sequel went beyond regular things like better presentation and more content. So many novelties that expanded the concept in a way that made the game punch above what was thought possible for a game boy game.
No other later game in the series has brought this much fascination and awe.

These improvements in Gen 2 is the reason why I never played Gen 3 or the remakes at launch. I actually fell out of Pokémon till 08' where I borrowed Emerald from a friend.
Then eagerly awaiting Platinum, we got HGSS, and Gen 5 all back to back. Good times.

I wouldn't say they "hate" it, but they have a parasocial relationship with video games. They'd rather watch someone play a game than play it themselves, even if that game is free. There's a huge focus on being "socially correct" in Gen Z, which is why they're passive-aggressive and ironic. They have to ask for permission to do anything because they're afraid of being called "unc" or being given the :joy: emote.
