Why the fuck did people put ultra pretentious and 8 bit outdated meme slop on a pedestal in the early 2010s? Were late millennials and early zoomers that brain dead?

it was hipsters who want to buy local and support "the little man." look at phil fish and now imagine like 1000000 of him, and that was the indie market back then. this was around the same time AAA gaming started to go to shit. AAA was shit and indies were shit.

It’s one of the few things better now than back then. The Phil Fish archetype was thankfully replaced by the Yacht Clubs and Toby Foxes instead. They suck too but they least enjoy video games as being fun

People love to hate on pretentious hipsters and while their smug disposition is indeed irritating, they also spawned the entire indie vidya scene, American craft beer scene, punk rock scene, etc. Even the Renaissance was kickstarted by a bunch of rich Florentine hipsters who thought they were better than everyone because they studied a bunch of old Greek philosophers you've probably never heard of (and now everyone knows them).

AAA gaming was balls deep in its brown and gray modern military shooter phase and the Xbox Live Arcade showed consoletards that there was more to gaming than AAA releases. It was an injection of life into an extremely stagnant era of gaming.

It's 2025, we all now know people only really ever gave a shit about Meat Boy (A game that actually tried to be fun) and has since ruined its own reputation since Tommy Refenes pulled a Nicalis with it and stole it from Edmund while making him waste years on a terrible endless runner idea and burnt basically all the bridges with it.

It was supposed to be a critique to big software houses from people that wanted something different from the usual AAA games, except nowadays that critique became the criticism in itself

Yeah, it's kind of funny to look back and realize they only indies from that time that actually hold up and had a lasting impact were Steakmund's because he made them real games instead of glorified art pieces.

Deltarune is a genuine and sincere game made by someone who loves the medium he is working in. You can't seriously claim that Toby Fox is worse than
>Christ-hating wannabe kike who is obsessed with filth and excrement
>nepobaby drama queen who got laughed out of video game industry
>literally the most pretentious person ever

Edmund actually doesn't dislike Christ or Christianity. I will give you that he thinks poop and farts are a little too funny and that's probably a result of him having IBS

Those games were the beginning of something great.

What they "made" were flashy hipster versions of old games. For half price of a full AAA-game.
I value what games like Mountainblade and Factorio (later) have done for the industry much more.
