4D exploration games
Majora's Mask and I guess the Hitman games
Things happening simultaneously
I like to explore time

It's a 4D metroidvania where you build your own branching timeline. Only some upgrades can travel back in time, so you need to route out when and where to be to have the resources to beat the game.

How do Hitman games fit into this? But I guess Portal Reloaded somewhat fits this with its 3rd time portal.

I'll wishlist that game. But simply based on the screenshots, it doesn't look that good.

There's no time travel/loop, but characters move in timed patterns that you can plan around

Seems kinda fart sniffing to call a thread on "Time based games" "4d games". It's like if I called the Cooking mama series, a "chemical combination simulator"

I like open-world that evolve over time.

Like when you come the first time, there's a city
When you come back later (scripted) it's mostly destroyed and you need to take another way
Then after a later script, damage opened a new different area.

Plenty of way of changing the feeling of the same area.
You can have a day/night cycle, change the weather, add fogs, change the NPC, give you an ability that let you reach previously unaccessible area.

rain world: downpour does exactly that but it's over separate playable campaigns

Nta, but the most common game-design out there does limit "real time" to NPC that are localized and do not change regardless of when you reach them (if it's not a sequential corridor game).

Not going to judge "Cooking mama", maybe it's fun? But a game introduce a new variable over the basics (and it is fun) is getting closer to deserving the name simulation.

I'll understand if you want to limit 4D to games that allow you to move in time, but I like encouraging game for exploiting more variable.

I like the art style but I can tell it's probably too hard for me.

"Time based games" sounds like something reddit would come up with

The thing is knowing your audience. a 10 year old, hell even most adults don't know what 4d even is. It's like how people know the 3 states of matter then you have the one guy pipe in with plasma. It's just simpler to call the game time limit based, as opposed to 4d. Even if you could argue technically all games are 4d due to how they function in general, it's just pedantic to think any normie would even think that far into it. Let me be clear, you are technically right, what I'm arguing is that no normal everyday gamer would see it in your way though or catch on.
