For me there’s a direct line between the quality of a MTG crossover (in a vacuum) and how “real” the setting is. LOTR and Final Fantasy were the best ones because they’re fantasy settings completely divorced from reality, so if you pretend you don’t know the source material they could kind of be regular MTG planes. The Star Trek set might be OK. It’s not completely unrealistic, Earth exists, but the setting has far more weird shit than recognizable.

But the Ninja Turtles live in regular-ass New York City, a place that not only exists, but we just saw in the Spider-Man set.

As someone who loves the exalted mechanic I do like that Jin has an exalted type of ability that scales to multiplayer.
Other than that the only notable thing from these is that Gruul Ellie and Joel give you Jund pair with a sac outlet in the command zone so they could potentially see play in Cedh as a Protean Hulk deck. I'm not saying it's viable but I would t be surprised to run into at a tournament randomly.

if they had some spine or sense they would have bridged New York city as a setting, and maybe put out Spider-man & Turtles at the same time or at least adjacent for the new players (what new players?) to use the same lands and similar cards with similar art and a similar setting... maybe design the two to draft well together? "Standard" just looks like a Universe Beyond showcasing at this point, especially when these "standard releases" are like half a set each. Spider-man has a really low card count and I imagine it's not the exception since you can't really write a whole world with different ecosystems out of New York and Spider-man.
Standard barely rotates anymore too so it will creep up in power comically, just wait.
